How many ohms should the ignition coil be reading in a 97 Volvo 850?

There is a light spark - orange color. We do not know how many ohms it should be reading when trying to test it.

you will have to have the car diagnosed with a code reader most garages have them prices from £20-90 to diagnose the fault + parts.

SOURCE: Replacing broken front corner light panel on Volvo 850

When you open the hood, look directly behind the headlight. all the way in the corner and a little way down should be a hook. I usually use a screwdriver and pull directly outward and then a little to the right or left. Then bring the hook back and the corner light should be disconnected. Then you can pull it out and do what you need to do. When you put it back, its a pain because you have to get the hook into a plastic groove. Make sure that you know where the plastic piece is before you start, just get a flashlight and find it. Then use your screwdriver the pull the hook up and get it into the groove. Presto!

SOURCE: volvo 850 wagon failed NOx emissions test - badly!

Hey Pitloops!
It seems likely that one or both of your o2 sensors are acting up, or that your engine is sucking in unaccounted air from a leaking vacuum tube. Spray the tubes with "start gas" while the engine is idleing. If you hear it revving up when you spray the gas on the tubes you'll know there's a leak.
I'll sacrifice a squirrel for you and hope that the problem isn't your o2 sensors since they can be expensive to replace. Fcpgroton.com is probably the cheapest part supplier online if you'll need new sensors.
You might also want to clean your throttle body, as it usually gunks up with carbon deposits and sludge over the years. It only costs you the price of the carb cleaner to do it and the car will probably run better afterwards even if it doesn't solve the problem.
Good luck!

SOURCE: replace brake light 850 volvo wagon

It is really easy, and requires no tools. There is a flush panel inside the car behind the lights, using fingernails pry it off, then all the bulbs are visible and quickly changed out.

SOURCE: abs dash light on Volvo 850 is on, whats wrong ?

Volvo has had a lot of trouble with ABS control units. Yours will most likely need to be replaced. You can either replace it with an exchange unit from a Volvo parts supplier or send yours to BBA reman. in MA for repair.

Testimonial: "Thanks a lot. Will lookout for a replacememt. Though the ABS is not essential I still like to have everything in the car working."

What is ignition circuit, where does it locate in 1994 volvo 850?

Did you check all plugs for fire? If fire on some , not others, coil pack bad. If no spark at all cylinders, I would lean toward a distributor cap and button.

Test ignition coil

Vehicle speed sensors your problem. Engine and transmission management system need to know if the car is moving and how fast to make decisions on how much timing advance, fuel and which gear to select. You are wasting your time with the coil.

It may well be a camshaft sensor at fault. The camshaft sensor is part of the 'ignition timing' system and works in conjunction with the ignition packs (or coil). The camshaft sensor is a common item to fail. However, before you rush off and buy a new one, be aware that there are other sensors on the Volvo. And Volvo parts aren't cheap. There's a crankshaft sensor and cold start sensor too ... Best bet is to get a mobile mechanic who has the necessary electronic equipment to connect to the car's ecu (computer). This will usually give an error code which indicates what unit is faulty. You can always change the parts yourself. Don't be tempted to change one part after another in the hope that the car will start. It'll work out more expensive in the long run. Pay to get it checked professionally and do the work yourself.
