Is it ok to use carb cleaner to clean sensors like MAF?

Po121 Tps sensor RPM, Po140 o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2,Po171,172,101 MAF dirty sensor.

If Short term # is high while underway, but normal while idling, you could have a scewed maf signal. Sometimes cleaning maf with carb cleaner helps. If no intake leaks are found, and fuel pressure and volume are ok, it could be maf sensor.

you may need to clean the maf sensor between air filter and carb use only maf cleaner also try carburetor injector cleaner in gas tank.

Autozone, carquest ect. sell MAF sensor cleaner. Do not touch the sensor because it will most likely break. Pull the throttle body off and spray it down with the MAF cleaner. Brake cleaner is supposed to work but cannot verify that in all vehicles and sometimes carb clean will work depending on the vehicle.

How is the truck running? The codes indicate a MAF related fault. A leak in the vacuum lines, as you have already worked out can bring about this code. When the engine is idling pinch the vacuum lines one at a time and take a note of how the engine sounds after about five seconds, leaks can be so small that they cannot be heard. If you are sure that everything is air-tight then time to look at the MAF directly. Again with the engine running disconnect the MAF and listen for any change in engine idle? If the MAF is bad, disconnect from the air ducting next to the air cleaner and try cleaning the heated film unit by spraying with electrical (no residue) cleaner fluid. Let it air dry before reassembling. If problem persists check the electrical connection to the MAF and if OK consider renewing the MAF. If I were you, before buying a new MAF, I would want to check the condition of the O2 sensors first; if covered in soot they will not read the correct exhaust oxygen levels and the ECU will assume the fault is with the MAF.

Hi, the usual cause of trouble codes 171 and 174 on these vehicles is a leaky intake manifold gasket. Here are the things to check: Check all hoses attached to the intake manifold for vacuum leaks. Get some carb cleaner and also some electric parts spray cleaner at the parts store. Use the electric parts cleaner to spray the MAF sensor. The sensor is accessible after removing the air filter. It sticks down into the airflow on the engine side hose from the air cleaner. Spray it several times, but don't touch it or wire it. The MAF may give the computer a low airflow reading if dirty, and that will cause lean operation.
Next, with the engine idling, spray the carb cleaner on both the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets. Listen carefully to see if the engine speed changes at all while you are doing this.
Changing these gaskets is a pain in the rear, but it's usually what has to be done to clear these codes. If the engine did not change speed while spraying the gaskets and you didn't find any other leaks, give the van a couple of days to see if cleaning the MAF will clear the codes.

It means pretty much what it says...something is causing your engine to run too lean (Not enough fuel) on bank 1. If you have a V-engine and that code is the only code you are getting, the most likely cause would be a defective oxygen sensor. If you are also getting misfire codes (Codes P0300 to P0310) then you need to diagnose the misfire first. The lean code will probably take care of itself once the misfire is fixed. If you have a 4 cylinder engine, this code may be caused by several other things as well. Vacuum leaks, defective mass airflow sensors, and/or defective MAP sensors can cause this code. This is not likely on a V-engine unless you are getting lean codes for BOTH banks.

The mass flow sensor on the 1998 Blazer is along the intake tube right after the air filter intake housing. Loosen the two clamps that hold the MAF sensor between the Air filter box cover and air intake tube, disconnect the wire leads at the MAF sensor connection and remove the MAF. Note it's uncommon for the MAF sensor to go bad and 95% of the time, cleaning it with MAF sensor with MAF cleaner will fix any problem it may of had to trigger the DTC codes.
Start with trying to clean it first just by following the instruction on the MAF cleaner. This should save you time and money to get your Blazer running 100% again soon.

yes you can clean a dirty sensor, but not a busted one. cleaning is a good step, if it works and the sensor responds correctly the pcm will turn the light out by itself if the problem no longer exists.(could take a couple of road tests) however connecting a scanner or code reader and hit clear codes then done. also disconnecting the battery for a min or so should do the job. if the problem still exists the light will reset pretty quickly. hope this helps.

clean MAF sensor with MAF sesnor cleaner or carb cleaner. spray the tiny wires inside the sensor. They get coated with varnish. careful, they are glass coated. MAF is in air cleaner intake usually and has a wiring connector.
It reads amount of air flowing through air cleaner so computer knows how much fuel to allow through injeftors.
