Speedometer is electronic part of instrument cluster and receive signals from the sensor on the transmission tail. If your miles counter work replace the instrument cluster,if not remove the sensor and inspect the plastic gear, the gear is made from week plastic and go bad very often. use help from a friend and start the engine, monitor the speed wile you using drill with soft material spin the sensor head. if the speedometer work replace the sensor. dealer price is $289 but maybe you are lucky to find good one used.
Good luck

Digital speedometer display inop. tap on dash & it comes on

open the hood and find the speedometer cables according to your auto's manual, check to see if they are securely connected to the ports on back of speedometer. if this doesn't work. find the function button front of speedometer press and hold while starting engine, will enter function mode, press button repeatedly untill you come to auto. press and hold button untill "-" appears then release button , unit will show on screen, wait untill a line of zero's appear on screen then drive around untill you go over one mile, stop the car and press the function button again, the speedometer is now recalibrated this usually fixes many errors

2005 kia spectra speedometer and odometer not working, no codes, everything else functions and car drives fine any sugestions on how to troubleshoot.

Sounds like a bad speedometer sensor. Usually located on the transmission. The only way to fix the speedometer/odometer is to replace the sensor.

My speedometer isnt working

Make sure all wires to the transmission are connected. From there, change out the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) On the transmission's tailshaft. If it's still not working, you need to open up the dash and make sure it's all well connected.

1990 Legacy: speedometer not working...

The first thing you can always do is check your fuses. there might a blown fuse that need replacement. The 1990 Legacy has a mechanical speedometer . The speed sensor is a read switch in the speedometer head itself. So if your speedometer is functioning ( needle working properly ) then the internal read switch is defective. That requires replacing the entire speedometer OR it can be a defective connection between the speedometer and the ECU.If the speedometer is not working, then you can have a defective speedometer, cable, speedometer cable adapter ( on the tranny ) or internal speedo gear in the tranny. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
