Replace fuel pump

Best to do this in a well vented area because of the fire hazard, so that the gas fumes don't accumulate.
1) Disconnect battery negative cable.2) Jack up car and support on safety Jack stands3) Siphon gas out of tank4) Remove three rubber hoses on rear of tank. These are used for gas fill up; remove hose clamps and disconnect.5) Remove three hoses from front of tank; these hoses go from the fuel pump to the engine. You'll need special fuel line wrenches for this.6) Disconnect two connectors at the front of the tank.7) Remove two bolts that hold the exhaust pipe heat shield. You'll want to use penetrating oil on these; they will be corroded.8) Support tank with a floor jack. Remove the bolts which hold the tank in place. Pivot the tank on the exhaust, tilt and slide out.9) The gas hoses are taped to the tank. Remove the hoses. The fuel pump plate has about 12 screws around it. Remove the screws. Lift the plate out. The fuel pump is retained with one screw. Remove the screw. Filter is retained with a clip; remove it.10) Get your new fuel pump ($250), the rubber gasket for the fuel pump plate, and new filter ($5). Compare the pump with the old one; it must be the exact lenght. I had to go to two different auto parts stores before I got the right one.Installation is opposite of above. Good luck!Fuel pump is not too tough. First, get a Haynes or Chilton manual for reference (about $14).Best to do this outdoors, so that the gas fumes don't accumate. If I recall correctly:1) Disconnect battery2) Jack up car3) Siphon gas out of tank4) Remove three rubber hoses on rear of tank. These are used for gas fill up; remove hose clamps and disconnect.5) Remove three hoses from front of tank; these hoses go from the fuel pump to the engine. Need to know how to fix a hose to fuel pump been cut

You can either buy an entirely new hose and replace the whole thing, or do what I did in the same situation. Go to a parts store and ask for the fitting that connects the hose to the pump. You will have to heat up the hose in order to slide the new end on because is is designed to be extremely tight for obvious reasons. The hoses that go from the top of the pump out into the rest of the car can usually be had brand new for around 20 - 40 bucks. The connector is less than 5 bucks.

What is a erg valve

An egr valve is an emmsion component to help lower exhaust emmisions.it also helps with pinging, this is a valve that takes exhuast and recirculates it back into engine to be reburned and is controlled by the computer, the computer with vacuum. the computer sends a signal to the vacuum solenoid to open that allows vacuum to flow through to the egr valve so it can open to allow exhaust back into engine, the computer uses a signal form the egr feedback sensor, this sensor is used so that the computer knows the egr is working correctly by monitoring the exhaust preasure, there are two hoses connected to this sensor and when the egr valve opens the preasure drops a little going to the feedback sensor which changes the signal to computer so that computer knows valve is working. the most common reasons for the system not to work is the vacuum solenoid goes bad and doesnt allow vac to flow to the valve, the next thing that could go is a hose to feedback sensor falls off or breaks causing a leak and then the preasures dont change, the last thing is the egr valve itself. a could way to test the valve is to remove vac hose and connect a vac pump to it and apply vacuum with engine running and you should see idle drop and engine speed lower, this means valve is good, the feedback sensor you would need a scan tool to watch readings or a meter to watch readings and see if they change as you open valve, the last test is the egr vac solenoid, you will need to unplug connector and turn engine on, then test connector you will have power to one wire or ground, lets say you have power to connector but no ground you will mark the power wire so not to mix up wires. next connect connector and apply a ground jumper wire to terminal that has no ground, dont connect to power connector, now see if the egr valve opens, some of these are set up with power and ground already and the computer removes one to open the valve, so first try to test both connectors at the solenoid and if theres power and ground with engine running then all you need to do is check the hose to egr valve for vacuum when you remove the connector from the solenoid. by removing the connector from the solenoid you will be opening it and vac should flow to egr valve, note this is only if when you test the connector theres power on one wire and ground on the other. hope this helps.heres pictures of each component. good day.2_4_2012_7_48_20_pm.jpg2_4_2012_7_48_31_pm.jpg2_4_2012_7_48_41_pm.jpg

Feul will burp mout of the filler cap no mater how slow I fill the car and the service engine soon light is on, how do I change the feul tank filler vent check valve?

Hi, your EVAP vent valve is likely stuck closed. The valve is under the car near the fuel tank. Remove the valve and check to see if it's stuck. You may be able to restore operation by cleaning the valve with carb cleaner. The valve should be open when no voltage is applied. I have pasted instructions below from autozone.com. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.
jturcotte_1546.gif Vent Solenoid Valve
2.2L & 2.4L Engines

  1. Raise the vehicle
  2. Loosen the EVAP canister vent valve hose clamp and slide the clamp down the hose away from the EVAP vent valve hose connection.
  3. Remove the hose from the EVAP canister vent valve.
  4. Remove the EVAP canister vent valve by placing a pry bar between the valve and mounting surface, and moving the valve forward.
  5. Remove the clip from the EVAP canister vent valve harness connector
  6. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent valve harness connector.

To install:
  1. Connect the EVAP canister vent valve harness connector
  2. Install the clip into the EVAP canister vent valve harness connector.
  3. Install the EVAP canister vent valve by pushing the mounts into the original holes.
  4. Lubricate the hose end with lubricant.
  5. Install the hose to the EVAP canister vent valve.
  6. Slide the EVAP canister vent valve hose clamp down on to the hose connection at the EVAP canister vent valve.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

Need to know how to adjust serpentine belt, please show diagram. 6 cyl engine.

Really don't need a diagram. Loosen the slide bolts on the power steering pump. loosen or tighten the pump by turning the jack screw (long transverse bolt) under the pump. Once the belt is tightened up, lock down the slide bolts and you are finished.
