Here's a question, is that the original equipment radio or is it aftermarket? If it is an aftermarket or upgrade, optional radio, the chances are good that you will need a special code to access the radio and get it working. The reason the code is needed is that it is part of an anti-theft feature that many radio manufacturers have used. Sometimes, in fact, new-car manufacturers have implemented it as well. Take Honda, for instance. If you pull one of the radios out of an older Accord and to swap it, you will find you need a special radio code to get things working, even minimally. You can obtain the code from the manufacturer and get the procedure for inputting it so that you can turn the radio back on. A similar method is used by aftermarket manufacturers.

I have not heard that Chevy had implemented such an anti-theft program on the 05 or 06 Cobalt (I owned an 05 Cobalt), but it's always possible, especially on a model with an upgraded radio/sound package. I would check with Chevy to see if that's the case on the Cobalt, otherwise, it's likely that the radio is shot and it's time for a new one.

Check the cigarette fuse, Sometimes it's the memory of the clock on the radio and if you pop that from a cell phone your radio won't work..

Fuse box location 2005 chevy cobalt

There are two locations for fuse boxes on a 2005 Cobalt. 1) is under the hood, on the driver's side, under the jump start contact. 2) is inside the center console, on the right side. The forward part of the console kick panel has a press-opening panel, which, when removed, reveals the fuse box.

2005 Chevy Cobalt lights turn off

automatic headlights are controlled by a photo sensor on the dash located in front of the Instrument cluster. to test the sensor try covering it and see if the headlights come on. faulty wiring in the circuit could also cause this problem. the headlights and the radio are wired together and the "auto" function will cause the radio to get brighter when its dark out, thus the combination of problems.

check:

My 2005 chevy cobalt factory radio is locked

There are only 2 things you can try to fix this yourself: turn off the engine and open the driver side door (to turn the radio off). Wait 5 minutes, start your car.
If that does not solve it, turn off your engine, disconnect the car battery, wait about 5 minutes. Reconnect the battery (negative pole first - black connector) and try your radio again.

If neither one of these two fix your problem, I am afraid only a GM service center or dealership can fix the problem. The Cobalt is notorious for all kinds of electrical issues.

Radio buttons stopped working

for gm the only solution is to replace the radio but you could take it out and into a electronic repare man it could be that the contact surfaces are bad.
