Open Question

I have 95 ford 350 turbo diesel it will turn on great in the morning when cold .when I shut it off it won't start back up again when hot

It probably is your glow plugs which are controlled by the cold start relay. They burn out over time. This is normal. Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part 10330, will walk you through the diagnosis and replacement easily. It's about $20. Hope this helps.

started car had only just gone around the corner and heard a burst sound then hissing thought it might of been radiator hose. stopped car checked main radiator hoses took radiator cap of released pressure ,but hissing continued sounded like it was coming from mid part of engine any ideas what it could be..

Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT) - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

5.8L and 7.5L Engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the electrical connector from the IAT sensor.
  3. Remove the IAT sensor from the intake manifold.
On California emissions equipped models, the IAT sensor is located in the air cleaner-to-throttle body tube.

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the IAT sensor to 12-17 ft. lbs. (16-24 Nm).

7.3L Diesel Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the electrical connector from the IAT sensor.
  3. Remove the IAT sensor from the air cleaner housing.
To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the IAT sensor to 12-17 ft. lbs. (16-24 Nm).

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the electrical connector from the IAT sensor.
  3. Remove the IAT sensor from the air cleaner outlet tube by carefully twisting it out.
To install:
  1. Lubricate the IAT sensor opening in the air cleaner outlet tube with a suitable lubricant such as a penetrating oil.
  2. Carefully twist the sensor into the tube.
  3. Attach the electrical connector to the IAT sensor.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

5.4L Lightning

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the front EGR vacuum regulator bracket assembly nut.
  3. Remove the EGR vacuum regulator bracket assembly bolts.
  4. Remove the rear EGR vacuum regulator bracket assembly nut.
  5. Detach the barometric pressure sensor electrical connector.
  6. Disconnect the vacuum lines and detach the electrical connector from the EGR vacuum regulator and remove the regulator and bracket assembly.
  7. Disconnect the supercharger bypass vacuum solenoid vacuum lines and detach the electrical connector.
  8. Remove the solenoid.
  9. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR (DPFE) exhaust pressure lines.
  10. Detach the DPFE electrical connector and remove the DPFE sensor.
  11. Detach the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
  12. Remove the sensor.
To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

The first thought that comes to mind is a high pressure oil leak. The injectors have a snap ring on top that sometimes becomes detached and it will create these symptoms.

When you depress the brake it sends a signal to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and the PCM increases the idle because it predicts you are about to shift into gear. If the truck has a high pressure leak inside the engine it will have a hard time building pressure initially and once the oil warms and thins out the High Pressure Oil Pump cannot hold the pressure and the oil leaks faster because it is thinner.

You may have a leak around the pump area which is under the turbo also. The IPR which is the regulator that controls the oil pressure may also be bad. It is directly under the turbo as well. The IPR is located under the turbo on the High Pressure Oil Pump cover. You stated the seals were leaking on the IPR itself? If the orings are damaged or if the screen in the end of it is collapsed or even punched through with a small hole it will need replaced. Screen damage is usually a sign of debris entering it from either dirt from a previous repair or something is coming apart inside.

Make certain you have clean oil and fuel filters. Yor may want to check fuel pressure as well. It should be somewhere around 55psi on acceleration.

Additionally, I suggest check for voltage at the connector on the fuel pump. The pump is mounted in the filter housing on the frame and the connector is at the front of it. The pink and black wire should have 12 volts with the key on for about 30 seconds. If the pump has voltage but is not running, then your pump has failed. If there is no voltage then check fuse 2.40 in the central junction box. This is the fuse that feeds the inertia switch through the fuel pump relay. I have included a fuse box layout and a wiring diagram (click over images for zoom)...



Additionally, will need to scanned the PCM to know if some fault code is stored there.

there is no wastegate on a 6.0l turbo. its a variable geometry turbocharger and doesn't need it. i have never seen a turbocharger cause a misfire, the turbocharger is most likely not your problem. if you didn't clean the intake out when replacing the egr valve there is a really good chance that the egr is bad again. also, a bad egr cooler can cause repeat egr failure. also, fuel injector control module is a common cause for misfire

Ford F250 turbo diesel cut out and died as left house this morning, cold morning. Will not start, not even a cough. Have new fuel filters, need location of the filters, anything else I should check?

if you have the 6.0 then the filters are located on top on the motor right beside your oil filter and under the drivers side on the fuel pump, check to see if you have diesel in your bowl where the fuel filter is, no diesel in there your fuel pump might be dead, check fuses to fuel pump and check relay on the passengers side kicker panel, check your owners manual

Shut 05 Ford f350 diesel off wont start

dies the truck restart once it cools off? it is very common for th 6.0 to have high pressure oil issues on a hot soak. they will run till the cows come home but once shut off they can not build up enough pressure by cranking speed alone to start truck until it cools down and the seals become rigid enough to bridge the gaps they are sealing in the first please. if this is the case. it may be the STC fitting ojn the back of the high pressure oil pump (intake and turbos must be removed to check) or possibly the branch tube o rings have worn. the branch tubes are located under the valve covers and supply the fuel injectors the oil they need to perform their "power stroke"...

F-350 turbo-diesel hard starting

Imagine the white smoke is unburnt diesel. Anybody standing in the middle of it will be able to tell you soon enough.

Most likely culprit is that one or two of the glow plugs aren't getting hot enough. Usually just that the plugs need replacing, but worth checking first that the busbar which runs between them all is getting +12V at the appropriate stage of the process.

Truck shuts down

Have the Cam Position Sensor changed. Ford has a recall to replace it to the new style. Typically the CPS does not cause an intermittent problem b ut mine did the same and stopped once the CPS was changed. If Ford will not fix it the new sensor is around $20-25.
