Your car has a diagonally split brake system. Each side of this system must be bled as an individual system, and there is a correct bleeding sequence to be followed. First bleed the right rear brake, second, bleed the left front brake, then follow with the left rear brake and lastly, bleed the right front brake. Here's a link on a repair guide for bleeding your brakes. I have replaced the brake master cylinder and bled the brakes. I still have spongy feel to them and it also feels as if the push rod is off, but it isn't at least not at the master cylinder.

you will have to bench bleed the new master brake cylinder. you can buy a kit the contains fittings and hoses to do this on the car. When you install a new master brake cylinder without bench bleeding it first air will remain trapped inside and no amount of wheel cylinder bleeding will remove it.

I bled the brakes on a 1998 ford escort zx2 but still cant get a full peddle

A bad master cylinder can cause this as well and improper bleeding. A leaking wheel cylinder or a bad rubber brake hose can cause this as well. Are you using a vacuum bleeder?

Are the brake master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder interconnect in some way? I'm told that the slave cylinder get its fluid from the master cylinder.

The brake system and the clutch master cylinder have the same fluid tank, look at the brake master cylinder fluid tank, on the right hand side about half way up is a hose that goes over to the clutch master cylinder, if fluid level is not above this hose the clutch will stop functioning. If the clutch slave cylinder, mounted on the front side of transmission bellhousing, leaks then the clutch will stop functioning. The slave cylinder has a bleed screw, check these items and fill and bleed as neccessary. Hope this helps, let me know.

I am replacing the front disc brakes on a 1999 escort

i shall help u by telling the procedure. first remove the brake cable from the caliper. now check for the dusts if any and re insert into the disc caliper now bleed the brake master cylinder. strongly kick the brake.keep it in pressed condition and pour in the brake oil. now release the brake pedal and push it for two times and then release.now the oil will be evenly distributed into your master cylinder. To be noted that connection goes directly from brakes master cylinder to the brake pedal. from the brake master cylinder the connection goes to the two wheels(front).check for any oil leakage.
