It's sounds like a fuel delivery problem ! Can't be anti-theft system problem , ford , mercury , Lincoln's don't let the engine crank ! Possible fuel pump ! Spray some carburetor cleaner into the engine intake , throttle plate ! if it starts you have a fuel system problem . There is a relay for the fuel pump in the under hood fuse / relay center an a fuse #9 20Amp , there is also the fuel shut off switch located in the front passenger kick panel ! If you knew how to do it you could check the fuel pump electrical circuit from the relay socket ! four pin's on the bottom of the relay an four holes in the relay center for those pin's ! Two have battery voltage one ground - through the fuel pump , last one open -this the control circuit from the engine computer .

It would be best to take it to the shop for diagnosis.

2001 mercury mountaineer wants to start but won't let me give it gas to fully start? Please help! ??Mom of 3??

Not sure what Mom of three has to do with anything, but you need to do basic troubleshooting. Test fuel pressure (test gauge often available from parts store "loan a tool" program. Could also be faulty ignition module (remove from car and parts store will normally test for free). Might also be dirty throttle blade sticking open such that IAC can't work properly, or even sticking EGR valve.

2001 mercury mountaineer starts fine but sometimes won't start at all

I'm going to first assume that you've checked the battery terminals for gunk build-up. If the electrical system is OK, then the problem likely lies in the gas delivery. You might want to check out the starter anyway. Also, replace the fuel filter and put some Sea Foam or equivalent carb/electric ignition jet cleaner in the gas tank. I might add that your car is 17 years old. Start looking. . .

Ran out of gas in a 2001 jeep cherokee limited 4.7 awd now it wont crank is it the fuel pump or is there a relay or reset

Not aware of any re-set on Jeeps. But you said it won't crank? Starter is not working? Please clarify.
If it won't crank over from the starter, your problem is in the start circuit, and not affected by fuel pump operation. So, please reply.

The car won{t start

check your fuel filter, if its good then try pouring a lil bit of gas into your air intake it should help your car turn over. keep doing this until it starts without quitting out
