Replace the speed sensor. Under the hood, looking down at the trans, behind the air filter box is the output shaft/speed sensor.

  • Slipping through the gears
  • Slipping on the 1-2 shift

Kia sportage 2007 sputters when I drive jerks and this am as I tried to speed up it didn't seem to want to shift up just reving ??!! I changed allready pump belts and do many other parts what could it be ?...

sputters in the context if engine, means MISFIRING, is it?

for a transmission, they dont sputter. sorry

but can jerk, or snatch, (being caused by gears engaging way to late)

(aka, harsh shifting) the opposite of slip

but it can slip then engage, causes a jerk. or harsh shifting.

see?

they do 100 things wrong, mostly never to sputter.

they don\'t shift up or down

they slip. (bad tranny)

if engine sputters, its tune up time, (posted like 10,000 times here)

if the transmission has issues, have real mech test it and tell you

all the symptoms, and possible ideas.

why not?

the A/T is a very very complex electro /mechanical device.

sputter is a word best for engines. like chain saw with a bad spark plug it sputters along and stalls.

does your car stall?

99 protege 1.6.when put car in reverse it engages harsh and o.d. light flashes and engine light comes on code 0123. tried a new t.p.s. sensor and had same problem

the TPS is the throttle position sensor which has no relationship to a transmission problem
run the fault codes and the TR , VSS and TCM are indicated problem areas

04 ram 1500 2wd. trans shudder at cruising speeds under 55? Doesn't during acceleration. Change filter and fluid to no avail.

That sounds like a torque converter problem more than likely. It sounds like it's trying to lock up (supposed to do that above 60mph) at a low speed. It will feel like a harsh shift or a shudder when it's trying to engage. Just to make sure I'm correct, drive it and listen to all the gears. When at 55-60mph after it has gone into it's top gear it will normally drop about 200-300rpm when the torque converter locks up.

here is possible fix:
ISSUE: Some vehicles may exhibit a shift concern and/or a harsh engagement concern due to water intrusion into the MLP/TR sensor and vehicle harness. There may also be a number of different DTC's along with those concerns.
ACTION: Replace the MLP/TR sensor and vehicle harness connector if signs of water is evident.

The green overdrive light on the dash keeps flashing and the transmission jerks into gear. Any suggestions on how to solve this. The test codes that come are P1747, PO156, and PO161. I have already...

not an oxygen sensor

vehicle speed sensor or oss is most likely cause.

Output Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) 7H103: The output shaft speed (OSS) sensor is a magnetic pickup, located at the output shaft ring gear that sends a signal to the powertrain control module to indicate transmission output shaft speed. The powertrain control module uses this signal for torque converter clutch control, shift scheduling, used in determining EPC pressure. Symptoms: No converter engagements, harsh shifts, abnormal shift schedules. DTC: P0720, P0721 std~us~en~file=d14110a.gif~gen~ref.gif

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) 9E731: The vehicle speed sensor is a magnetic pickup that sends a signal to the powertrain control module. This VSS signal tells the PCM vehicle speed. The PCM uses this signal to modify upshift schedules. Symptoms: Shift engagement/disengagement (hunting) on grades. DTC: P0500, P0503, P1500, P1501, P1503

4L80E trans harsh and late upshifts

Found trans to be a mis build,, had a rear planetary with no reluctor ring for the output speed sensor ,, sensor was picking up a false signal from moving internals. This caused a gear ratio error, wich defaulted the trans and was not contolling the pressure, default pressure went high causing late and harsh shifts .

96 Ford Contour CD4E Auto Trans.

The item referred to needing adjustment in the previous reply is called the MLP (manual lever position sensor). It tells the computer electronically that the car is in P, R, N, D, 2,1 (depending on the gear selector) It also allows the car to only be started in P and N for safety.
If it is out of adjustment, the sensor is misaligned with it's reference point on the gear selector rod, which goes into the trans case and pushes/pulls a rod that moves the selector piston/valve. The valve will be in the right place but the computer will say other wise and it controls the shifting with the solenoids.
SOURCE INFO:
{MLP transaxle function: determion desired gear and electronic pressure control (EPC) pressure:
Symptoms: Harsh engagements and firm shift feel, engine may not crank, may downshift to a lower gear, 2nd or 3rd gear operation, transaxle not inicating the proper gear, no 4th gear operation. no manual first gear.}
Another point of interest is the EPC (electronic pressure control)solenoid inside the black side cover.
Failed OFF-maximum EPC pressure, harsh engagements and harsh shifts.

Another possible issue may just worn out clutches if the unit has high mileage or maybe verify fluid level and recent change of fluid. The filter is inside unit and trans has to be removed to change, some Hondas are like this too.
