Several possibilities:
1. you have carbon build up on one or more valves preventing them from completely closing which would cause misfires and black smoke

2. worn rings allowing too much oil to remain in the cylinders

3. sticky choke preventing sufficient air for proper fuel mix causing misfires and incomplete combustion (black smoke)

4. dirty air intake filter

Ford transit 110 T280 I've back smoke on excellaration and loss of power on inclines; could it be the EGR valve at fault ; also have management warning light on.?

Needs piston rings. You have lost compression so you are losing power. The oil is getting pasty the worn rings and entering the combustion chamber which would explain the black smoke and loss of power.
