Idle air control ! Ford IAC Test stalling problems Ford GM Chrysler there all the same ! How does it idle out of gear , smooth or ruff !

Check your transmission fluid level, add fluid if necessary or have the fluid and filter changed.

Look at the modulator on the side of the transmission. It's probably gone bad.

Just leave it in drive unless yourself noticing that the gears are changing back and forth. If you are driving up hill or have alot of extra weight this might happen so you can use the drive 2 but not a highway speeds over 60.

Setting up a rear end is not as easy as just bolting the parts into place. They should be set up with a special fixture and detailed measurements taken. If you take used gears and do not get them setup in the same relationship as on the previous vehicle, I can almost guarantee you that you will hear noise from them and they may not hold up long, especially on that type of car.
If you get new gears, for that type of vehicle you should get the "softer" strip only gears and have somebody who knows what they are doing to set them up.

THAT CAN BE THE CASE, THE GEAR RATIO CAN BE DIFFERENT, JUST AS THE REAR WHEEL DRIVE CARS, AND YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL. THE ELETRICAL CAN BE DIFFERENT ALSO, GET THE SAMME YEAR, MOTOR SIZE.

sound like a fuel related problem . Change filter and get a fuel pressure reading.

check to see color of fluid and what it smells like: if its brown and smell burnt it no good.as for popping, sounds like timing is off/poss timing chain jumped.
