Remove panel slide forwardd look for any loose connectors or pinched ribbon cables. Use electronic spray cleaner on any connectors that appear loose the reseat to circuit board

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.

Maybe the wires are grounding check for wires chaffing

There are two pieces on your car for temp related functions. There is a temp sensor which you replaced but there is also a colling temp switch. The sensor feends the ecm and works with the fuel system. It does not control the guage. The switch is what controls the guage. Thats what you need to replace. In the even your car is one of the rare one that only uses one sensor then you need to check the wires going to and comming from the sensor. You will probably find a loose or corroded connection somewhere in the line.

2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited. 97k miles. Temp gauge is erratic when actual temp is normal. How do I fix this?
