Most cars have an anti siphon device in the tank.this stops the gas pump going right down into the tank causing splash back. the only way around it is to fill the tank slowly ( do not pull the lever right in ) hope this helps

When I gas it up it vapor locks and spits gas out the vent holes I have it just barely in the spout and have to go real slow

Are you talking about filling the gas tank>> If yes,,, That is NOT vapor lock... thats just the angle, speed of delivery, size of hose in vehicle, etc that causes the gas to spit out,, try not putting it in so far, and use a different angle.. (mine does the same thing!)..

Vapor Lock is when the engine/carb get so hot that the fuel vaporizes in the fuel lines and carb...THEN "vapor" cannot be pumped into the engine... and it wont run... now ya know!! :)

Sorry i dont understand the lingo here -- spout??? if this vehicle has a distributor thenm its too far advanced or the gas /petrol is below the correct octane value or too much bio fuel -eythelene -- has been added to the fuel ,this happens a lot here in europe with the looney left and their enviromental lobbies ,over 10% on a older car will cause problems .My peugeot 205 1988 doesnt like the 95 but the 98 runs like a dream ,no froxen ice around the carb or perished fuel lines .

The car seems to have an obstruction in the gas line, won't take gasoline easily from the punp. Turns pump off continuosly.

Dan the reason it takes it from a gas can is there is no pressure building up in the line as you would have from a gas tank. As you fill the tanks the air inside of the tank has to go out as the tank fills up. I would suggest checking the fill hose thats connected to the gas tanks and the spout inlet where you put the hose to fill the tanks and check for kinks in the hose. Second there should be a vent hose from the tanks that connects to the spout also check it for kinks or blockage this would prevent air from escaping from the tank causing the gas pump to cut off due to the rapid filling of the tank without the air being able to escape. Hope this helps

Fueling causes gas to back-up

Turn the handle 1 way or the other to follow the path of the fill spout as it is at an extreme angle beyond the filler nozzle portion.

Unable to put gas in at at gas pump

SOUND LIKE EVAP SYSTEM FAILURE.CAUSING EXCESSIVE FUEL PRESSURE VAPORS BUILT UP IN FUEL TANK.TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO FIX.THIS IS A LITTLE TRICK TO GET GAS IN TANK BACK OUT SPOUT A LITTLE NOT MUCH TO LET VAPORS ESCAPE WHILE YOU PUMPING GAS.YOU NEED TO FIX.FUEL PRESSURE VAPORS WILL BUILD UP ENOUGH TO BLOW UP FUEL TANK ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS.

Gas clicks like full when its not full

It sounds like your tank vent is pluged. If you look under the vehicle near your filler spout, you should see the filler spout hose leading to the tank and a smaller hose next to it. The smaller hose is the one that I am concerned with. See if it has some how collapsed with age. In a few rare cases I have seen the vent hose made inside of the filler hose ( ford ranger I belive) and you won't see that one. What happens is when you put the fuel in, the air must come out, so it burps for a better way of putting it and it forces fuel out with it. Putting the filler hose in farther and tighter won't help, but you could try to slow the rate down so as to give the air more time to escape.

How do you read the engine light codes on 2005 civic lx also if something got dropped into the gasfill spout is there a screen to stop it from going into the tank?

Teh check enign light needs to be rwad from a scanner/code puller. you can buy a cheap one at harbor freight or ebay. AZ/Advance auto pulls the code for free as well.

No there is no filter in the gas fill spout. If you drop soemthing its more then likely in your gas tank. Only was to get there is to drop the tank. What did you put in it?

Fueling of gas

Had cars like that; the path to the gas tank is probably somewhat constricted with bends causing the gas flow to gag at that point. A '95 Saturn SL2 I owned (what junk, glad I don't any more!) liked having the bend in the fuel spout pointing toward the front to avoid the problem you are having. You might try rotating spout a bit while fueling to see if you can also find a better path for the fuel.
