I have BMW530I 2008, if i speed fast and the gear shifts from 4th to5th or if I'm driving on the 6th and made kickdown to the 5th, I get a transnission fault and I have to swich off the car and turn it on again to get back to normal. If the gear shifts from 4t to 5th without accelerating fast, no fault will happen. The mechanic scanned the fault code and found the following.. But he never saw this code before and not sure what the fault could be. 4F8A     Not present     EGS: Ratio monitoring, gearshift 4-5 4F83      Not present   EGS: Ratio monitoring, Clutch C 4F96      Not present    EGS: Ratio monitoring, clutch C-E

Hello thank you for your detailed information. I am doing some research on your issue and would like to ask you 1st, if it seems like there is any pattern to this issue meaning does it seem to happen more when the car is warm or cold, while going up hill/ down hill, etc. Also, what, if any, troubleshooting have you completed? Have any controllers, sensors, etc been ruled out. You can start by start by verifying the oil level make sure its not blackened, "glitery" or burned smelling. Beyond that I will have to continue my research and wait for a response from you. Any and all details will be useful. Thank you for using www.fixya.com We look forward to getting you back on the road properly! -Tim

Thx Tim for the quick reply,
Well sensor issue is not ruled out but oil level is good. Also, its not related to temperature of the engine.
Yes it happens when I'm driving up a hill on thr 6th gear and the car needs more power to go, so once it shifts down to fith gear, a transmission fault appears.
It seems like can't go to 5th gear under pressure

SOURCE: car stalls when accelerating in low gears

I had similar issues on mine. I bought it from the Good Will for less than $1000. :)
It's been totaled i believe at least twice.
Anyways, replace the fuel filter. It's about the size of an oil filter and is very easy to replace.
Also, replace the spark plugs with some good titanium type plugs. They're like $4 from Wal Mart.
Next, put some fuel injector cleaner every other tank of gas or so. This will definitely help.
Good Luck

SOURCE: Clutch Sometimes Slipping in 4th and 5th gears!

Hi Jackiaria

Unfortunately you have a hydraulic clutch, which is self adjusting on your car.

The problem you are experiencing is the excessive wear to your clutch, or oil contamination on the clutch plate.

Both these problems can only be fully diagnosed once the gearbox is removed and the clutch is inspected.
There is also a possibility of excessive wear, or scoring, on the flywheel surface, the longer you drive the vehicle with a slipping clutch, possibly requiring the flywheel to be skimmed.

Shop around for a best price, and a trustworthy garage !

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be Nice....Thanks.....John.

SOURCE: 92 Accord Automatic shifting

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.

SOURCE: Mazda 626 - Hard to shift into gear.

With any vehicle that has a hydraulic clutch, a worn master cylinder or slave cylinder will give this very symptom. First step is to check the fluid in the resivor. If it is low, you will want to check for fluid bypassing the seals. Be sure to check under the rubber dust cover as fluid can collect there and not be readily visible. Also, if the fluid in the resivor is dark colored, it is an indication of the internal seals going bad and you will need to replace the cylinders.

John Deer skidder 648GIII will not go into 5th or 6th gear, but will go into all other gears.

Check your linkages are tight. When you shift it into 5th or 6th, is it really moving or shifting it into 5th or 6th. I'd start there. If it appears to be pushing to 5th and 6th then the issue may be inside the tranny. Something worn, or blocking full travel.

EGS: Ratio monitoring, gearshift 4-5/.

Gear ratios are monitored from the input and out shaft speed sensors. Takes a scanner to watch the speed signals. These sensors are magnetized. If to much metal collects on them, this could mess with the signal. Could be a bad wire or plug to the sensor. Reading the code is just the first step. Next comes diagnostics. Making sure everything on the outside of the transmission is doing what is supposed to do, then going inside it.

Transmission problem with a 2007 Mazda cx7

This indicates a problem in the transmission control module as it is not activating the solenoids/servos and consequently the sensors that read turbine speed and output shaft speed are not reading the correct difference of the two units . Have this checked out at an accredited auto transmission shop.

Lack of power in 5th and 6th gear at cruising speed, have to downshift and go through gears to obtain higher speed

4th and 5th gears are for use over 45 and 55mph respectively as they are both Overdrive Gears.

If you are above these speeds in these gears when the issue occurs I would suspect Tune-up issues, fuel/air delivery problems, or a drastic change in tire/ wheel size on the vehicle.

Last tune up was?
Air Filter?
Fuel filter?
Checked fuel pressure and volume?

My 2005 lincoln ls feels like it is going in and out of 4th & 5th gear expecially when traveling on an upgrade at a speed 75- 80.

Common problem..we keep ours in drive..4th when traveling in hilly areas because tranny keeps shifting into overdrive...5th. I know they should not shift like this but if you try that it will solve your shifting problem without spending hard earned dollars. :) hope that helps.
