The 97 is diferent from my dads '98 88 but on all of these there is a relay on the firewall to turn on the fan #3 from the left #4 should be for high speed on the '97. debris could have entered the fresh air inlet and jambed the fan. a bad motor may still show continuity on a meter. at this age you may need to check and clean all the fuses both kick panel fuse panels as well as the one on the firewall contain fuses for the ac. Your '97 model should also have an AC programer on the right hand kick panel with vacuum lines atatched that I know nothing about but I read a good posting about it with pictures just search " 97 olds88 ac programer" and follow the images if the relay and fuses and checking for voltage at the motors connector do not solve it . seems to me the programer failure led to the fan staying on but I just breezed that article as it did not apply.

1996 oldsmobile 88 - the Hot light is coming on as well as check engine. saying its a cooling sensor on diagnostic. Replaced the sensor, and thermostat.Lights still on, could it be fan relay?

It could be the fuse, the relay or the fan motor. Start by checking the fuse and if it's good swap the relay with one with the same number if the fan doesn't run unplug it and use a test light to check for current if the test light lights the fan motor is bad. I hope this helps. Take care.

The air conditioning fan on my 1989 oldsmobile toronado trofeo with automatic temperature control doesn't work. The AC puts out cold air but the fan doesn't blow it into the cabin.

I assume you checked fuses for condition and power to and through the fuse to the fan. Locate the fan motor and check for power and ground with a volt ohm meter. Check for continuity thru the motor t make sure it is not bad.

The fan on my 96 oldsmobile 88 will not turn why?

Barring the simple blown fuse every time my fan has quit working on all my cars it was one of the following. 1 the bearings went bad in the fan and the fan became sticky. you can tell this by rapping on the fan motor itself while it is turned on, if it starts then it is sticky and doesnt have long to live. 2 the motor burned out completely you can tell this by applying 12v from the battery directly to the motors contacts in the proper polarity + to + - to - . If you are not sure how to apply power to a motor to test it you might want to have someone that knows how do it for you. if it doesn't run pretty good sign the motors dead. 3 there is a fault in the wiring and you would use the test for #2 to determine the motor is still good then start checking the wiring and switches. I usually check in the following order, glance at the led embedded in the AC switch on the AC console to make sure the unit has power , rap on the fan housing because its out in the open on the firewall under the hood and im lazy, check the fuses just for the heck of it even though the AC unit LOOKED powered, curse a bit, apply power to the motor to test it. I have only had 1 car with mysterious bad intermittent AC wiring and 1 car with a bad switch the rest were all motors that went bad.

1997 oldsmobile 88 heater fan works sporadically

Most likley your blower motor has a "dead" spot in it when you hit a bump it jars it to work. Replace the blower motor.

Heater fan motor wont run on high

Check or have checked the blower motor resistor. This is usually how they act.
