Speedometer sensor measures axle(driveshaft) speed for your speedometer gauge.
Input speed sensor measures the speed of the input shaft of the transmission.
The output speed sensor measures the output shaft, the ECM compares these two signals to determine the amount of clutch slippage and adjusts parameters accordingly for optimal operation.
code p0720 refers to output shaft speed sensor(OSS)--circuit malfunction====causes--wiring--OSS sensor--ECM/TCM
of it has just happened check the wiring and connections to the transmission for water and corrosion or replace the OSS sensor in the transmission.
the output speed sensor is located on the transmission. while standing in front of the vehicle and looking down at the transmission you will see two rubber hoses. under those hoses you will see the input speed sensor. if you look to the right of that sensor, and you may have to look from underneath the vehicle you will see another sensor that is identical to the input speed sensor. That is the output speed sensor. The output speed sensor is the one that shows how fast you are moving on the speedometer.
There are 2 possibilities here: 1.- There may be a problem
with the new speed sensor, the electrical wiring between the speed
sensor and the PCM, or an internal PCM problem. To see if VSS signal is
present at the PCM a scan tool capable of displaying live data is
required.
2.- There is a recall action on this model year for
erroneous speed sensor signals; the cure is an updated software
calibration. If your truck has not yet had the updated calibration
installed, you should call your local Dodge dealership with your VIN number and ask the service department to check
to see if there are any open recall actions on your vehicle. If the
software calibration has not been updated yet, they will perform this
procedure free of charge for you. If you do not have the current
software calibration in your PCM to correct the VSS issue, you need to
have this done before proceeding any further with attempting to diagnose
this problem
This sensor is located at the rear of the transmission.

When Monitored: Continuously with the key on, engine running, and gear selector not in park or neutral. Set Condition: This code is set if the vehicle speed (as determined from the vehicle speed sensor), is above 15 MPH, and the output shaft speed is below 60 RPM for 2.6 seconds.

hi , their is two different speed sensors on your vehicle one is the input speed sensor which is inside the transmission and the transmission will have to be removed to replace it the other one s the output speed sensor is located directly above the passenger side trans-axle shaft. your input sensor is the sensor which tells the transmission when to shift and the output speed sensor tells the speedometer what it should display and both those parts are fairly cheap they are around 15-25 dollars but just remember if your input speed sensor is bad it is gonna cost you a minimum of 1000 dollars to have a mechanic fix as the transmission needs to be removed hope this is what you needed
P1529 indicates that your TCM asked the ECM to turn on the check engine lamp.
The range switch and the output speed sensors are the items that are
abnormally affecting the operation of the transmission. The diagnostic
logic in your computer can distinguish these issues from one another,
so you'll definitely want to do both. You have no diagnostic code for
the input speed sensor (P0715) listed, so I have made no recommendation
to replace it. In my opinion, it's not a labor-intensive repair, so I
wouldn't recommend replacing it unless you have reason to believe it's
bad.
DTC - P0720 (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0720 Output shaft speed sensor system
If the output from the output shaft speed sensor is continuously 50%
lower than the vehicle speed for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd
or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h or more, it is judged to be an open
circuit or short-circuit in the output shaft speed sensor and
diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output. If diagnostic trouble code
No. P0720 is output four times, the transmission is locked into 3rd
gear or 2rid gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause

Malfunction of the transfer drive gear or driven gear
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM
DTC - P0715 (INPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0715 input shaft speed sensor system
If no output pulse is detected from the input shaft speed sensor for 1
second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h
(19 mph) or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit
in the input shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0715
is output. If diagnostic trouble code P0715 is output four times, the
transaxle is locked into 3rd gear or 2nd gear as a fail-safe measure.

dear friend:plse make sure that you replaced the output sensor and not the input speed sensor.the output speed sensor is the one closer to the fire wall,
The speed sensor is on the tailshaft of the transmission,on the passenger side of the car,it has 3 wires. The output sensors are located on the front of the transmission about mid-way up the housing & only have 2 wires. Note the output sensors are not responsible for vehicle speed. Only the output shaft speed is recorded. They are for finding the correct cvi(clutch volume index) only. If you have a cvi issue,the transmission is toast.
