Which engine, are we to guess that? wow.
why guess, why throw money why throw parts. that is what costs the most. THROWING. does most times.
and fate rules world,no dreams, what will be, will be. right?
before having a wallet blow out, find whats wrong first. see?
(first discover then panic)

the opposite of that is called, DIAGNOSIS.
you can do that or pay someone who can, any ASE tech can !
you do know ,right, you can pay for only diagnosis.?
"put on work order "diagnosis only" that is a contract.

car has a real oil pressure gauge?
we never trust any gauge on car, ever, (after it lies, LOL)
we next attach a real guage to engine and make sure dash gauge is not fibbing, or its just a wild goose chase, a tech never ASSUMES.

he uses tools and real instruments to see truth.
301 is #1 cylinder 1 misfire ( is this the only DTC>???????)
misfire, means only ! bad combustion on #1
that can be many things, causes.

  1. bad compression on #1
  2. bad injection to #1
  3. bad spark #1.

try a new $2.50 spark plug on #1 yet or better all spark plugs doing the first real tune up ever?

80psi,? (if real the filter is in bypass mode, and that is bad)
is filter 10 years old?
running wrong engine oil?
try changing it and running 10w-30 (or -40) for summer>?
RTM yet, read the operators guide, see oil sections?
put in snake-oil additives in it (never do that)
Jiphphyboobs put in antifeeze in the oil.? never use them. ever.
does oil look like milk chocolate? not amber.

SOURCE: code scan: P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected

Code P0301 is a generic OBD Code for Misfire. It also indicates you have a misfire in the #1 Cylinder. I would start by checking the plug wire to make sure its clean and on all the way (at the coil as well). Then if that doesnt help I would pull the plug out and check the condition of the spark plug. hopefully this will give you some direction. Thanks for Using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC

SOURCE: 2002 jeep wrangler oil pressure gauge drops

When the gauge is at 0, is there any noise from the engine (tick, knock etc?) I would have someone put a mechanical gauge on there and read true pressure.Your driving pressure seems OK but if the low number is "real" something is wrong!

SOURCE: high oil pressure 80 psi on a jeep wrangler, what

Possible stuck pressure relief in the pump or a defective sending unit. Try putting a container of Marvel oil in there and see if it helps. Also putting a mechanical pressure gauge on it temporarily will give you an idea if the pressure really is that high. if pressure remains that high it can cause the filter to fail and leak. Therefore if you can't find an external cause, then the pump will need to be replaced or you can loose the engine if filter fails.

SOURCE: engine diagram 1997 jeep wrangler SE

So how do you know you need one if you dont know where it is?? Oil pumps rarely go bad unless the engine is sludged from lack of maintenence. After you take the oil pan off, its there hanging down. Make sure you clean or replace the pick up tube. I'm sure you can google up torque specs, for the bolts. Usually there is major engine damage by the time you figure out that there is lack of oil pressure. I would get a professionals opinion before you waste time and money replaicing the oil pump. If the engine has any unusual noise or knocking, its too late.

2002 jeep wrangler diagnotic light is on oil pressure gauge workig funny when warm,do i replace oil assending unit?

Before replacing anything get an OBII scan done (fault scan) Any good parts store IE: Autozone, Advance, etc can do it for you FREE get list of faults/messages and go from there before throwing parts at it.

2004 jeep wrangler engine code P0301

P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire detected........P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire deteced, and so on........so either it is a current misfire, which you would be running on 4 cylinders instead of 3, or it is an intermittent problem.......i will provide some possiblities,,,
- ignition system (spark plugs, leads, coil packs)
- fuel system (injectors, ecu etc)
- running out of fuel
- low compression

Basically, if your vehciel has not had service for a while, change the spark plugs, and engine oil, and give her some loving, tender care....

However, if it is regularly servicedm there might be a bigger problem.....

More info required to help you.

Oil pressure guage pushes to 80 when not idling.

In an engine in good condition, oil pressure is a function of RPM. Higher rpm, higher pressure. Whne coasting downhill, in gear, the engine rpm will increase, hence, the oil pressure will go up, as required, and as expected.

There is nothing wrong with your engine, unless the oil pressure goes excessively high under any regime. Low oil pressure is a sign of low rpm, or under load, a sign of worn parts.

I have a 90 jeep wrangler, 4cyl and 5 speed transmission, when i accelerate in any of the gears, it makes a popping noise and the second it makes that noise it seems like the jeep stops pulling, if you...

It sounds like it is the throw out bearing. From your description of the vehicle not pulling its weight, it is going to need a clutch. The throw out bearing will come in most clutch kits, so when you replace the clutch you can replace the throw out bearing, pressure plate, and pilot bushing.

Oil pressure spikes to 80+ at start up and above 2500rpms - usually at 40 steady - any ideas

The first thing I would do is replace the pressure sensor. It is cheap, easy to change, and probably the problem.

Changed my plugs jeep wrangler 4.0 now my oil pressure reads maxed out at 80 psi. all the time while engine is running.

Sounds like a bad oil sending unit...or maybre you knocked the wire off, or it's grounded when changing the plugs.
