The display on my odometer is blank. What causes this and how do I fix this problem?

well get it fixed, ?
check all fuses
then scan the PCm it will for a fact tell you why its dead.

stop working means, what.
speed stuck at 0MPH;
but odometer is not clear by you at all
shows blank screen, or the miles are there and right but is frozen.
or a partial display of miles, we can't see it to know, ok?

FIXING is last never first
first is DIAGNOSE first. scans are that. scan the PCM obd2 port..
does your doctor fix you ,unseen? and untested, NO.

3 issues are:

1. speedometer not moving
2. odometer digital display is blank
3. shifting is erratic while trying to accelerate

There are some cases of cold solder joints on the cluster causing a blank odometer display.

might be wroth checking, but time consuming and you need to be hand with a soldering iron to repair them.

This is if the cluster lighting still works, but the display is blank. Don't know if you mean the gauges in the cluster do not work.

If there are only partial images and some are blank, the unit itself is failing and requires replacement. There is no "fix" for this kind of display using LCDs. Try Silverstar recycling in CA and can be found on the internet. They carry all kinds of good stuff for Mercedes/Porsche at resonible prices and will ship.

There is an issue with some MYs that the digital odometer goes blank on the 99-03 MY trucks.

The problem is with cold solder joints on the Instrument cluster.

F150online has a how to in the electrical forum, that shows where to look for the cold solder joints.

If you are hand with taking apart a dash, and using a soldering iron, then it is a bit time consuming, but cheap to fix.

The dealer will want to replace the Instrument cluster, and reprogram the HEC with your keys ( the PATS part ), which would be 600+ to have done.

Mine went blank after condensation inside windshield dripped behind the dash (sunroof drain problem). After a few months, in really dry winter weather, digital display time, gears, odometer came back. I assume water inside dash just needed time to evaporate. Sure beats $1000 to replace unit inside dash!

Could be a ciggerette lighter fuse, usually cause this when it blows.
