2007 Ford Expedition EL Limited 4x4 ... no transmission fluid dipstick! How & where to check/add tranny fluid? Capacity? Thanks, Brad
On the bottom of the trans pan, there should be instructions.
You warm up the trans to 180 degrees or more, hold the drain plug with a 22mm wrench or 7/8",then remove the 1/8" pipe plug in the center with a torx bit.
If filled correctly fluid should just barely run out.
Capacity is around 12 quarts total.
You only get about four to four and a half, if you remove the drain plug or remove the pan to change the filter. Some extra will drain down while your doing the filter.
You need to have a special container that hold two quarts at a time, then you put an air hose to it,to pressurize, and blow the new fluid in,warm up,and any extra will drain back into your fill container.
I found on my Lincoln LS, you can fill it by removing the 3/8" tail housing plug. The other rear drive fords may be similar.
You want to get the old fluid out including your power steering every couple years or 30,000 miles.
I drained mine twice, ( 8 quarts),drove it two weeks to make sure it shifted okey, then repeated. (16 quarts total) I prefer that to a flush machine. I used to own a trans shop.
Use Mercon V and a bottle or two of Red Lubegard on final refill.
Use the power steering additive from lubegard with the correct P/S Fluid.
They are the only two chemicals I ever use on a vehicle, that I know ,not only work, but are necessary on some foreign trans.
If you look at the drain plug when it is out,you will see an extension tube. That is how the correct level is obtained with the torx plug out and fluid warmed up. You need the vehicle up on stands and level,so you can get under it.
