What are the instructions to reset the radio in a BMW 316i 1995.
I have a 1995 BMW 316i and the radio needs to be re-set. I have the 5 digit code, but simply entering the numbers does not work. Does anyone have the specific instructions please ?

You probably need the special 5-sided tool to loosen the two screws under the little doors on either side of the faceplate to pull out the radio. Try other tools, but if the screws are really tight, you need the proper tool, which you can buy on line.
Slide out the radio, read the serial number, and give it to the service writer at a BMW dealer. If they want to charge you money to look up the code, try another dealer.
If it is to clear a "check engine" light, any good auto parts store will loan you an ECM analyzer or bring it out to your car and take care of it for you.
The analyzer plugs in near the drivers left knee and you simply follow the on-screen instructions to read the code(s) and reset them.
If you need to reset the computer for some other reason, the easiest way is to disconnect the battery for about 1/2 hour. Please be advised that this will also reset your security system and radio codes and if you do not have them either in your manual package or written down, you may have problems with these systems after a full reset.
You have to ask the dealer to look up your code for you. Then you have to leave the key in the first position (do not start car) and leave it for 1.5 hours. Then come back and radio will accept your 4-digit code.
