I have a 95 Pontiac Firebird with a 3.4 liter v6 it is not missing and I have replaced every single sensor under the hood it idles rough due to the fact that it is getting weak fire on the number 5 cylinder coil packs ignition module complete system brand new soon as I hit the gas up to 1500 rpms the fire and creases on that cylinder and the roughness ceases to existhave a hundred and seventy pounds of compression on each cylinder at 3 spoons of the key. it has to be a breakdown in one of the wires that sends the voltage to the ignition module for the number 5 cylinder if you are getting weak voltage into the coil it cannot increase it but so much what can I do to cure this problem

SOURCE: 2005 chevy colorado runs rough and gets bad gas mileage.

Sounds like it needs spark plugs and wires, and a fuel system treatment.

SOURCE: 2001 Firebird 3.8 misfires

Check your alternator see if you have a drop in voltage on your tack, then it is the problem.I too was a victim of high price tune up and still had a problem with a misfire.and cover your coil pack with a piece of rubber water run of onto your power pack .Another thing is to use a silicone spray on all wires.

I would inspect the connecter and wires for the #3 cylinder fuel injector for damage.

Pontiac 2000 rough idle engine light

Depending on what year and model, you may be able to check the ECM for trouble codes yourself. Either way you need to know what the codes are.
My guess would be they disconnected the air temp sensor in the air filter box. Look for a sensor in the air filter or the hose going out to the front of the engine compartment that is missing a plug.

While I am idling at say a stop light for any period of time the car every so often seems to have a rough surge somewhere under the hood. Could that be the fan kicking on causing that or is there something...

IF THIS IS A V6 ENGINE IT COULD BE ANYTHING, BUT YOU MUST CHECK ALL EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT, VACUUM LINES, CLEAN IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE AND AND ESPECIALLY TEST AND CLEAN THE EGR VALVE AND TEST MAP SENSOR,AND OTHERS-FUEL PUMP AND FUEL PRESSURE, INJECTORS, ETC..(all fuel related stuff)
NO, NOT AN EASY SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM.
IF IT'S A V8 CHECK OUT THIS WEB PAGE.

  • does the engine miss? bumps is a rythmic pattern?
  • an engine miss will appear to diminish at higher rpm due to centrifical force.
  • other possible problem broken or flat motor mount.
  • is the idle rough in reverse?
  • if not
  • open hood
  • start engine
  • Left foot on brake (hard)
  • start engine
  • watch engine as you select drive
  • still holding brake with left foot / throttle gas with right foot
  • does engine dramatically move?
  • if so replace motor mount on offending side
  • if not possible engine miss or transmission problems

Where is the coolant temp sensor for a 1996 pontiac firebird v6

Coolant temperature sensor is located on the intake manifold, close to the thermostat housing for the 3.4 liter and on the passenger side head for the V8's. Good luck and keep me posted.

1998 firebird 3.8 v6 92000 miles runs great until 3000 rpm then it runs rough and starts to miss

Same thing happened to my 94 firebird. Did your car run hot at any point? Mine overheated and ended up melting a couple of plug wires.
I replaced the wires (and plugs). That took care of the problem.
