(8th digit of the VIN code is the Engine) H eng.code a 2.3L 4 cyl. Hybird/ Z eng. code a 2.3L 4 cyl. / and a 1 eng.code a 3.0L 6 cyl. Couldn't say if one was a Mazda engine. Usually if you have a Mazda part on a Ford it's the Transmission.
OK OIL FILTER IS A PAPER FILTER NOT A SCREW ON....ON TOP OF ENGINE YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO UNSCREW LID ON TOP ITS BLACK.ITS AT FRONT OF ENGINE. TRYED TO SEND PIC BUT WOULDNT GO THREW
You don't need a special tool. Use a 6mm allen to remove the filter drain plug. It will probably start to spin the filter housing. You can remove the housing by hand or with a regular oil filter wrench.
The 2002, 2003 and 2004 Mazda MPV's all use the same Ford 6 cyl. 3.0 duratec engine. The Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute of those years use the same engine. Therefore if you need an inexpensive engine repair manuel for your 2002 MPV, get the Haynes ($20.00) 2001-2007 Escape/Tribute manuel. Mazda sells the a MPV shop manuel for $180.00. I also own a 2002 Mazda MPV LX. 75k miles.
