200 Cougar blowing headlight fuses

Whenever I replace the fuse, headlights will work for a short time and fuse will blow again. Dashlights and parking lights still work. Any advice would be appreciated. This car already has no reverse, so I don't want to put alot of money into it. Thanks!

First look for a short or where a wire is exposed and fix that with electrical tape.

If you can not find it, then often I will put a Re-set fuse that does not blow but resets and costs about $5 at Autozone.

Good luck, J

Parking light fuse keeps blowing 2007 Chevy Tahoe

Check the wires behind the fuse box and where those wire go through any metal bulkheads or framework. You do indeed have a dead short. Look for insulation rubbed through. Also work from the lights backwards to the fuse box.

you have a short circuit somewhere that is causing the fuse to blow,it is most likely the headlights unless you have been messing with the dashlights, you will need to check all the headlight wiring to see if you can find the fault.......hope this helps......cheers

My 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 is blowing fuses. Whenever I cut the headligghts on a fuse blows and my tail lihts, marker lights and dash lights no longer work. I have replaced the fuse 13 times so far. I havent...

I suspect wear and tear has shorted a wire somewhere. The question is where is the problem?
A little deductive work can go a long ways.
If the running lights work fine but it blows when the headlights come on then it is in the wires going to the headlights.
Try this. Get someone to help you by watching the headlights when you turn them on with a next size larger fuse. See if your helper notices one of the headlights being dimmer then another. If he does then it is "Likely" that that particular headlight circuit is the culprit.
Start tracing the wiring back from that headlight till you find the problem.
Note: You may have a bad headlight switch as well. as in it could be shorting out inside when you flip the beams on. If neither light comes on at all or merely flicker then Id be very suspicious of the switch.
If you are the only owner of this vehicle then you know that nobody has been hacking the wiring. But if you bought it you never know if there might have been a splice poorly made by somebody else that is now shorting out.
Hope you find it fast. wiring problems are a real headache.

My tailights and dashlights won't work because the fuse blows.

it sounds like a short in the park lights.you will have to start by disconnecting headlight switch then install fuse, then check all park light bulbs and there sockets, its gonna be a bad switch or socket, enless theres a wire touching ground ,but start with the switch and checking all sockets. hope this helps.

Headlights blow fuse...no short in wires?

there is short somewhere. fuses don't blow if there is no short or overload. check the switches.

Flickering lights on 2001 Chevy tracker

I had similar problems, with dash board lights and headlights flickering, and the problem was a dying alternator. After I changed it, everything got back in normal. Also, a bad alternator eventually will kill your car's battery, too. I hope this will help you.
