Speedometer will not work, odometer goes blank, get distance data error, and power steering not working. it will work once in a while when the weather is warmer.

This all points to a BCM or communication issue. You need an auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer. They can record the live data as it all happens and why?
Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the body control module (BCM). The engine control module (ECM) calculates the vehicle speed based on the controller area network (CAN) serial data message indicating the wheel reference speed from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The ECM sends a CAN serial data message to the BCM indicating the vehicle speed. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC indicating the vehicle speed.
The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) when any of the following occur:
• The EBCM detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.
• The ECM detects a loss of CAN communications with the EBCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of CAN communications with the ECM.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.
Having the vehicle scanned for codes would probably point you in a correct diagnostic direction .
It wouldn't be a ground problem If it were the whole instrument cluster would be dead . Checking the BCM an the IPC for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes is the proper way to diagnose this type problem . Not worrying about grounds .
Odometer
The vehicle odometer is calculated and stored electronically in the body control module (BCM) and is sent via the serial data circuit to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) for display. The BCM calculates and stores the mileage based on the vehicle speed serial data information from the PCM/ECM. The IPC displays the season odometer information from the BCM in the driver information center (DIC). The odometer will display error if the IPC detects an invalid odometer data from the BCM. After an invalid odometer data is received from the BCM, the IPC will display the last known odometer reading for 1.5 seconds before error is displayed in the DIC.
Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on serial data message from the body control module (BCM). The BCM receives vehicle speed data from the PCM/ECM via the serial data circuit. The speedometer will default to 0 km/h (0 mph) if:
• The PCM/ECM detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.
• The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the PCM/ECM.
• The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM.
You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.
Sounds like you have a bad Instrument Cluster (Also called a Speedometer) and the easiest thing to do is to go to a Salvage Yard and replace it. You can also go to EBAY or www.car-part.com and there is a locator for cars by Price/Distance and you can get a used one. I just checked and there are 12 between the price of $15 - $40 on Car-Part.com.
you may have a bad ground or there is a short at the speedometer in the dash cluster if everything else works i would lookinto getting a new or used dash cluster ......go to CAR-PART.COM for your part this is a list of all the local and us junk yards that would have your part
Dear Sir/Madam,
The problem is electrical. The speedometer/odometer box needs to be removed from behind the steering wheel (or after removing the steering wheel)...The bulbfuses behind the panel need to be changed and new electrical connections made for the speedometer/odometer to work.
Thanks,

My linclnls 2001 v8 is indicating me fuel computer data error and the speedometer stays at 0 mph and the trip stay indicater stay blank.any suggestions on what to do??
Sounds like either your speedometer cable, your nylon gear on the side of the tranny where the cable ties in, or the odometer itself is shot. One of those three will set you straight. If you are able, remove the cluster, take the cable off the back, and pull it out of the sheath. You will see if its broken or not from there. If not, slide it back into the sheath, then you have to find out where the sheath meets the tranny, and pull it off of there. Then, you can get someone else to watch the speedo as you turn the cable from the bottom. If it works, great, if not, then its your cluster/odometer/speedo. If it does work, the small gear in the transmission is shot.
