Hi Peter:
You didn't say what the vehicle is but the principle will be the same.
If one hose is hot and the other is cold, the coolant is not flowing through the core.
Possible problems:
- There will be a valve, controlled by your "I need heat" switch or lever. That valve is not opening. Electrical problem if solenoid controlled, or cable problem if manual.
- The heater core is blocked or corroded so badly that fluid cannot flow through it. This requires replacing the core.
- The return hose may have deteriorated and collapsed, blocking the hose and preventing the coolant from circulating.
SAFETY TIP! Do not disconnect hoses when engine is hot. The fluid is under pressure and will spray all over. ALWAYS loosen or remove rad cap before disconnecting hoses to releive residual pressure.
Your heater switch is not working.take it to shop and they will show u were it is. unless your thermastat is stuck, does your engine heat up? if so change your thermostat. other check you switch..mudman1966
