Radiator fan does not spin.

Car overheats. forcing coolant back out through the resovoir.

no power at the power cables & the fuse is good.

request a schematic to find where the brake in the wires are.

check for low coolant level make sure coolant system been bleed from air.make radiator full coolant and coolant reservoir on the full cold mark.if all is good the cooling fan relay could be bad or the engine coolant temperature sensor could be faulty.

CAR OVERHEATING FIRST CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG.IF COOLANT LEVEL IN OVERFLOW JUG LOW REFILL ADD COOLANT BACK TO THE FULL COLD MARK.PUT RADAITOR CAP ON COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG START ENGINE LET IT IDLE UNTIL IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.MAKE SURE TOP RADIATOR HOSE GETTING HOT WHILE ENGINE WARM UP.IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE DONT GET HOT WHILE ENGINE IDLING YOUR THERMOSTAT COULD BE STUCK CLOSE CAUSING CAR TO OVERHEAT.IF TOP HOSE IS GETTING HOT.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE FOR LEAKS.CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR CORES AND PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS.IF ALL IS GOOD ENGINE OVERHEATING WHILE IN A LONG TRAFFIC LINE, COOLANT FANS NOT COMING ON.COULD HAVE FAULTY ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR BLOWN COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.COULD HAVE PCM FAULT.MAKE COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND WIRING NOT DAMAGE OR BROKEN.

If you have overheating problem, it can lead to multiple issues. You may be running on low coolant that's why the vehicle overheats. If that's the case, please add coolant and make sure that it sits on the right level, too much coolant can cause overheating too for coolant will overflow.


The vehicle may have a faulty or worn out radiator blower motor that's why it overheats. If that's the case then you will need a blower motor replacement to resolve the issue.


If the radiator is clogged with dirt and rusts this issue occurs too. The coolant doesn't flow normally on the cooling system if it's clogged. If that's the case, I strongly suggest that you have the radiator flushed to drain out dirt and rusts. If you think that the radiator served you enough then it's better to have it replaced.


Please do check the radiator hoses, If you have worn out hoses it can cause coolant leakage which can result to overheating. A tiny hole is good enough for the vehicle to overheat.


A faulty thermostat sensor can cause the issue too. If you have worn out thermostat, the fan may not trigger that's why the fan won't work when under stressed conditions. A blown radiator blower fuse can cause this issue too so I suggest that you check the radiator blower fuse and replace it when necessary. What causes the radiator blower fan fuse to blow? It's because of a failing radiator blower motor, If that's the case have the radiator blower fan motor replaced.

The radiator keeps throwing out all the water from the resovoir, why? everytime i put water or the cooler fluid and i use da car and turn it off all the water leaks out through the resovoir.

Engine cooling is a team effort, ie; radiator , coolant fan , thermostat , hoses etc . You need to change the coolant thermostat (cheap ) to elliminate any coolant problems (pressure), the rest is just water managenent ! ! It's not a leak and I feel a replacement coolant thermostat will answer your prayers ! The enging only has to overheat ONCE to have a serious bill at the end of all the guess work. Good Luck

Where is the sensor for the fans on the radiator?


There isn't an actual separate sensor for the cooling fans, instead the Engine Coolant Temperature [ECT] sensor sends a constant signal to the engine computer telling it the current coolant temp and the computer then decides when to close a relay which sends power to the cooling fan[s]. The cooling fans won't be on, even if the engine is running, unless either the a/c system is on and working or the coolant temperature reaches about 218 - 220 degrees at which point the cooling fans will be turned on and run until the coolant reaches a temperature of about 210 degrees and then it will turn off. If the a/c is on then the cooling fan[s] will be turned on and stay running to remove the heat from the a/c condensor all the while the a/c is left on. The fan[s] rarely come on at highway speeds because once the vehicle is over about 35 mph there is enough air being forced through the radiator to keep everything cool. If the fan won't work at all I usually check for a blown 30 amp fuse in the underhood fuse junction box or you could have a fan motor that has simply failed. Hope this helps a bit and good luck!

Car will overheat while at idle


yes the head gaskets leaking on modern aluminum head engines is all to common. never overheat them, if they start to get hot shut it down and find out why, it can of course be the fans and plugged radiators or faulty thermostats but sounds like in your case the head gasket is leaking and combustion gas is entering the cooling system and this causes an overheat

I have 2003 grand cherokee with 140000 miles that overheats at idle. as soon as i start moving again, the temp goes back to normal.


You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful

Overheating Jeep 1989 Cherokee Pioneer


Could be anything you mentioned, or the fan relay. Add to that , thermostat or partially obstructed radiator. Begin by turning the fan with your hand. If it turns it is not frozen(do with engine not running). Then, check fuse. Unplug fan and hotwire it to see if it runs when powered up. Check fan relay for power (in and out). If you never had any problem with the cooling system before you changed hoses for P/S, I would carefully examine your work to make sure that you did not accidentally unplug the temp sensor or damage the wiring anywhere. (otherwise, checking each component carefully will likely reveal whatever has failed.Don't do testing from one end to other when checking electrical... check component, then power at beginning of circut, working towards the middle. This eliminates starting at fan and working all the way through entire system only to find a blown fuse or the other way around) If you need help checking any individual part, get back to me. There is just too much to write out to cover all of it at once.
