2003 Lincoln Ls v8 got hot on the hotest day of year so far for what ever reason (?). Engine light came on, overheat light came on, pulled over, Popped hood had coolant boiling in over flow tank, Let cool off couple hours. Coolant low, filled with no leaks, bleed system of air. Has run fine and not got hot since. Had code read and cleared. Only code (P-1299) I,m going to drain system and put new thermostat in and coolant. Have not checked fan - fan relay - fuses or temperture sencer yet. I have not heard or seen fan come on yet, so i know the there may still be a problem.
Sorry but its common for this year to have a hyd cooling fan motor to go bad along with the coolant degas tank breaking...you'll need ford pn# XW4Z-8K621-AA motor and a # 388898S washer to replace, along with the degas tank..don't forget p/s fluid to refill the system...BESURE you totally PURGE the cooling or it will O/Heat in 2 blocks ....hope this helps you...GL
looks like you have the later production..... try the T/Stat, and PURGE the system of any air and check if it still O/Heats.....The fan has 2 fuses....in-line 60A---test wire color RD/YE.....and.....F1-05 / 15A @ aux junction box...test wire GN/YE...........GRD= BK/YE..chassis/bdy ground......WH/BK..pcm ground...if all good, most likely the FAN is failing.....hope this aids you to find the problem...GL

2003 has electric fan, not hydraulic, the degas bottle is certainly one possible issue, as if it has turned a yellowish-tan color and has a lot of what appear to be stress cracks on the inside, don't be fooled, these cracks expand when heated allowing air into the system, and you'll see steam trying to escape or smell the coolant when the engine is turned off. On my 2003 v8 I've replaced the degas bottle, cylinder head temp sensor, upper radiator hose, radiator, electric cooling fans, water pump, and the entire thermostat assembly (3 plastic pieces) between the URD and the inlet to the engine on the intake plane, purge, purge, purge, and still have overheating issues...I'm about ready to drive this car into a bayou if I can't figure out why, as there is no water in the oil nor trans fluid, so I am stumped...I'm suspecting the heater core (or heater control valve), but there is no leakage inside nor out. LRD is not an issue (yet).
EDIT: I recently added the Prestone coolant purging system and used the 5/8 in Tee in the heater hose line down by the radiator, gasketed a funnel to prevent any leakage and filled the cap at the top center of the engine with coolant concentrate, opened the degas bottle for relief so the coolant will settle into the engine and then filled the remainder with the water. Closed the degas bottle and top center cap, then opened the purge tee and ran my purge fitting onto and and hooked up the water hose. opened the bleeder valve and turned on the water hose to a slow flow until all the hissing and air appeared to no longer be in the engine. turned off motor, closed bleeder valve, then removed purge kit (no worries, as long as the remainder of the coolant openings are sealed shut, you will not lose any fluid after disconnecting the hose and purge connector. replaced the purge cap...have not had any overheating issues and no gurgling post-engine turn off...no real fan overworking noises as well...why didn't Licoln/Jaguar think of this?

Must be a year change over car, because this car has a electric fan, and the tank is fine / no leaks
