Valve lash adjustment, is mostly all hydraulic with no adjustments, if you are experiencing some sore of noise for lifters try desludging the engine using aa motor treatment. Follow all directions. When I rebuilt heads most lash adjustments are 8 to 10 thousandths for intake and 10 to 12 thousandths for exhaust. Also timing components can also sound like lifters, in some cases a bad waterpump causes weird sounds too.. please try to ask more specific questions.

Valve setting

Personally, the valve clearance (if nobody's been messing with it) would be last on my list of suspected causes.. Knowing diesel engines like I do, my very first suspect would be a dirty fuel filter.

Flex feul or single fuel injector overhead valve?

I have no idea what your car is but if inside the fuel door (where you add gas) it says E-85 you can run it. Your fuel economy will suffer as will the power. Your car should also have green badges or stickers on it that will say flex fuel or E-85.

Procedure of tappet adjustment

make sure engine is warmed up. Put cylinder one at top dead center, remove the valve cover, loosen all adjustment lock nuts, adust intake and exhaust valves on cyl #1 and intake valve on #2 and exhaust valve on #3. now rotate crankshaft 360 degrees clockwise, now adjust intake valves on cyl#3 and cyl #4 and exhaust valves on cyl #2 and cyl #4.now tighten lock nuts and install valve cover. specs are intake valves 25mm clearance and exhaust 28mm clearance, use a feeler gauge, heres a picture to show you where to check clearance.7675a52.gif

Valve clearances

On the intake 0.0008 or 0.0020 (it's in between these 2)

this is for the stem to guide clearance. (for the intake)

The Exhaust 0.0018 to 0.0030 stem to guide clearance.
