Get the codes first ,as it can be your linkages under the car that is loose from your gear-stick to your gearbox.or it can just be a need for a fluid change .

It appears you have a Forward Clutch FAILURE. Replace the trans after you get it diagnosed and verified by a professional technician. By the way, do you have a Check Engine light? If so, what is the diagnostic code? The dealership can scan the system and find any codes which may have been stored in the TCM (Transmission Control Module). If there were any 'Incorrect Gear Ratio" codes, it's most probably the trans itself.

Most "common" cause is and engine misfire that causes unburned fuel to enter the converter and overheat/melt the catalyst. The converter is covered by 8yr/80,000 mile warranty for defects, and may be covered thru Kia. On a positive note we have a 2005 sedona shuttle van a work with 250,000 miles on it and qoing strong.

sorry but time to visit the transmission shop. the only thing you could try first is Lukas Transmission oil sold at parts stores one quart only. make sure you get the oil for transmissions and not the crankcase.

No reverse, here are few things you can try before needing to take it to a tranny shop. The 4l60e trans is a fully electronic trans. And being so the problem could be as simle as the reverse shift solenoid has shortted out. Along that same line the reverse valve could be stuck and or the little screen that is attatched to the mid plat could be clogged and in order fix this problemyou need to drop out the valve boby and for the most part rebuild the reverse circute.

Now for the hard stuff. Other problems you could look at.
imput housing assembly - 3-4 apply ring stuck in applied position.
- forward clutch not releasing
- turbine shaft seals missing, cut or damaged.

manual linkage - not adjusted

oil pump assembly - retainer and ball assembly missing or damaged.
- stator shaft seal rings or ring grooves damaged.
- stator shaft sleeve scored or damaged.
- revers boost valve stuck, damaged or misassembled.
- cup plug missing.
- restricted oil passage.
- faces not flat.
- converter clutch apply valve stuck.

valve body assembly - 2-3 shift valve stuck.
- manual linkage not adjusted.
- spacer plate and gaskets incorrect, misposition or damaged.

reverse input clutch - clutch plate worn.
- reverse input houeing and drum assembly cracked at weld.
- clutch plate retaining ring out of groove.
- return spring asembly retaining ring out of groove.
- piston deformed or dished.
- seals cut or damaged.
- retainer and ball assembly not sealing.
- restricted apply passage.

lo and reverse clutch - clutch plates worn.
- clutch plate retaining ring mispositioned.
- porosity in piston.
- seals damaged.
- return spring assembly retaining ring mispositioned.
- restricted apply passage.

case - cover plate gasket missing or damaged.
- cover plate not torgued correctly.
- porosity.

now thhis came from my 4l60 service book.
hope this helps

Thank you for using fixya and be safe

2002 Kia Sedona with fluctuating speedometer. Is the VSS synonymous with either the input or output sensor, or is there still a third sensor VSS located somewhere other than the front wheel.

well lost the service manual, id not own any kia.
some transmissions have 3 speed sensors.
some cars have 3 engines, and 3 different transmission.
none old. Trans-axle i it is . FWD
the 3.5 L Hyundai V6????? and had 4 or 5 speed box.
and are not the same. not diesel, not 2.5L
no only the rear VSS sensor is road speed.
on my car ABS is the VSS road speed sensor only.
so learn to read the service manual and not guess.
ok no ABS so car is not in USA ,?

the VSS in on the OUTPUT main shaft of the tranny.
what I do is ask Kia which tranny box is there.the real name.
like Aisin a340 or? the like then look up that box.
or go to the parts houses for your transmission and page one shows VSS output, clear as day.

NO VIN told and no dealer sells parts lacking that
nor will I help you with exact answers.
no engine told but is in VIN #8 digit
I see KIA USA has no tranny parts for this car. zip.

Trans-Axle - Kia (45000-39560R) good luck finding parts, yes car stores have the sensor once real model transmission is told above is for 3.5L
