SOURCE: ENGINE WONT TURN OVER

sounds like the timing belt it has a interference engine so if the timing belt broke you could have bent rods and cracked pistons or worse. good luck

did you do a fuel pressure test? if you havent do it its cheep an at least you can elimanate that. if thats not an issue, then there is only two other things crank sensor, and if there is one cam sensor.

i think if you checked the sparking plugs and map sensors then check your distributer its maybe not delivering the current nedded to perform the spark to some of the cylinders

SOURCE: 2005 Ford E350 Cargo Van Diesel starting problems

These International engines can be difficult to diagnose without the proper tools; namely Ford's I.D.S., or Navistar's DLC.

As for the o-ring the dealer was hinting at, they may have meant the o-ring on the fuel injection pressure regulator. I have witnessed these leak and cause difficult or no starting. This component is located at the rear of the engine below the turbo exhaust supply tubes. A specialty socket is needed to replace it (35mm 12 point socket which resembles an O2 sensor socket), although replacement is most likely unnecessary considering that your vehicle does eventually start. If this were indeed the culprit, your engine would not start. There is a test port next to this regulator to test oil pressure (bolt with allen head relief). A high pressure gauge which reads greater than 5,000 psi is necessary to test at this port. When your engine doesn't start, try checking what the oil pressure is at this port. A minimum of 3,000 psi is needed for the engine to start and 5,000 psi is prefered

Other sources of this problem could be the intake air temperature sensor, oil temperature sensor, or wiring compromises. It's a shame the dealer didn't want to spend the time necessary to pinpoint your problem. So glad I'm out of that crooked industry.

2001 mitsubishi eclipse 2.4L intermittent start problem. always cranks but doesn't always start. if it sits for a while it normally starts right up or after i shut it off it starts right up. but if it sits...

Ok i am assuming the starter will (ALWAYS engage and rotate the engine) Now this problem sounds like if you keep cranking the engine over it eventually fires up. So if this is so, i would start looking into your fuel pressure regulator. The fuel is not staying pressurized in the system making the fuel pump start over each time filling the fuel lines. Part one, if you cant remember when you changed the fuel filter do it now anyway period! it will make it easier on the fuel pump with less load on it. Part two, The fuel pressure regulator holds fuel against the injectors to be dumped into the cylinders at the turn of a key this is why they crank so fast. if the listed above does not fix your problem, which i think it will. Definitely get back to me and, if the starter motor is the issue same applies. Please remember we are all volunteers here on FixYa and work jobs too, so your answers may not come as fast as you like but when we get time. We try to do what we can to help you. I changed the 02 Sensors on my 03 Mitsubishi Galant do I need to reset anything on my car? It turns on fine but idles low when put in gear and shuts off.

Its a hot start issue.

Can be related to low fuel pressure or problem with crank sensor.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

But possibilities are to be inspected to confirm what exactly it is.------

My car wont crank its turning over but wont fire i cant here the fuel pump when i turn the key the car ran fine and then i parked it for a few months and now it wont start

Charge battery? How cold/ hot was it when parked? could have water i oil that could seaze pistons, put a little oil down spark plug holes and leave 4 couple days. Try cranking by hand with bar and socket on main pulley. Have rodents eaten your wiring? Have seen this and it wasnt preety or cheap.

99 Tahoe engine cranks, wont start

You need 3 things.
Compression
Good hot blue spark to all plugs.
Good gasoline and proper fuel pressure. 63-64 lbs.
If you have all 3 then move on to injector pulse to all injectors.
I think each injector is on a separate driver on that one.
Check for pulse to all of them.

You may be weak on fuel pressure . even a couple of lbs low on a cold start will cause a no start.
Double check cold start cranking fuel pressure. If under 63-62 lbs you have problems.
one test is to give it a squirt of carb cleaner not starting fluid. If it starts then you have a fuel pressure problem.
Run the full fuel pressure test and post back pressures.
Here is the guide lines on testing.
Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.

The 75-85 is only a check on the capable full pressure of fuel pump.
If you can not find the rubber return line check full pressure by plugging return line or just or the true full pressure can be taken direct at the end fuel filter.
What are the pressure readings that you have done.
What are your cold start pressure readings?
Post back what you have.

The other thing to that is common is the (ICM) under the distributor cap. There is a breather screen on the bottom of the distributor that get's clogged with dirt causing condensation promoting corrosion, this was gm TSB for replacing the cap and rotor to make sure it's clean.

Good luck and hope this helps. Merry Xmas.

My 2000 eclipse wont start up all the way

I have the same problem on my 2002 Eclipse RS 2.4l 4 cylinder. Replaced the battery, starter, fuel pump(not at one time) . It started up when I had the starter put on as well the fuel pump. But everytime I started the car up it ran good till I turned it off the problem was still there. The car sounds like it wants to start but it sputters you can smell the gas so I know its getting fuel. it starts up fine with a cold start like in the morning.

Try getting a diagnostic thats what Im going to do next week.
good luck!!!
