2004 Chrysler Town and Country 3.8L. Sounds like bearing noise. Had AC recharged today. They indicated everything else with compressor fine. Still have a bearing noise when compressor engages. Can that be alternator bearings when it has additional load added from AC Compressor?

Nope, it is the compressor. Why did you have the system recharged, because of a leak?

Extra a/c load on belt will cause any marginal bearing to become noisy... check carefully with a probe (I use a long extension... two foot, or an equally long screwdriver as a stethoscope) Be very careful that you don't get it or you, caught in the belt when doing this. All bearings make some noise, but one will stand out from the rest if it's bad.

What size belt do i need to bypass ac compressor o a 99 chrysler town & country?

I wouldn't because you need the defrost to work while in Rain with windows up or in the winter. Good luck with finding measurement for mini-van. Not many people void them.

My town and country is making a loud humming noise

It all depends if the humming sound comes from the engine or the transmission. Check the idler bearings, the water pump bearings or the belt.
also if there is fault on the alternator or AC pulley there can be humming.
finally if the noise is heard while the car moves , then check on wheel bearings and axle ends .

I have a 2005 town and country with a whine that begins after about an hour of driving. sounds like power steering but had that checked and was told it was fine. fluids are not low.

Check your alternator, they can make the same noise. Especially on a Chrysler they are known for Alternator bearing noise that sounds like a power steering noise. Take a scredriver and put the metal end on the alternator and the plastic end to your ear. If you can hear the noise excessively you have bad alternator bearings. Replace the alternator before it goes bad.

AC does not get as cold

Not a job for a do-it-yourselfer. Head to a QUALIFIED Auto Shop. It may have a leak that needs repairing before you have it recharged....
Good Luck,

AC problem

Sounds like the bearing and clutch went out. Its best to replace the compressor, unless you got the tools and knowhow to chg. the clutch and bearing. If you just chg. out the compressor, the refregerent has to be drained out first, and then unbolt lines on back of compressor, and electrical wires, and belt, and bolts then remove. Put new compressor on in reverse order. But system should be vacumed be for its recharged with refregerent.
