Probably rear cable in shoes froze remove back wheels and cut cable then beat on drums to get freed up you might need new back brakes and cables you can try pulling on cable while hitting drum before you cut them

My emergency brake cable broke on my 95/96 chevy s-10. we are trying to figure out how to release the emergency brake so that i can drive the car home.

I'm confused if cable is broken how are brakes locked? The cable should go to the rear wheels. At one point somewhere under the car you should be able to find cable and release it around the middle of truck. The cable should pass some kind of pre-tensioner. Hope this helps.

Emerg Brake is stuck and engaged, won't release -

ok then. the E-brake cable is not broken just stuck, the cables tend to get rusted and thgis happens all the time,What you can do is go under the truck and manualy pull the cables rear of the truck this should release the brake.
As for the four wheel drive the E-brake has nothing to do with it. on the transmissions transfer case there should be a switch or a manual lever that a cable hooks to this is most likly your four wheel drive problem unless you have locking hubs where you have to pysicly get out and lock the hubs at the wheel then the locking hubs may be worn broken or bad.

The emergence brake's reslease to our 2001 jimmy won't release how can we do it ourselves

Usually, the heavy cables that go to each rear wheel and operate the emergency brakes get soaked with water over the years and become rusted so that the inner cable ceases to move or becomes stuck with the brakes full on. Replace these cables to restore operation and adjust them so that braking action starts when the pedal is depressed about 1/2 way down.

Rear brakes locked on my 92 loyale wagon. How do I

Your rear emergency cables are frozen. You can try pulling back toward the rear of the vehicle on the center cable while someone inside wiggles the lever up and down slightly NOT all the way up. Then by grabbing individually the left cable and twisting and bending it,it may release. Do the same to the other side. Soon as you can get a can of Liquid wrench or an equivelent, NOT WD-40, and soak the two rear lines going to each wheel. ASAP, the rear cables and any other frozen/worn parts should be replaced.

1994 Jimmy - Rear brakes are dominating after brake job

You need to bleed the whole system. Once this is done it should work better. Make sure you are not low on brake fluid. If the front brakes are disk brakes and the rear are drum breaks, the front really does most of the stopping, the back jjust keeps the car from spinning or swaying. But the main stopping power is in the front breaks. They need to be bled correctly, make sure brake fluid is up and make sure emergency break is not engaged. The emergency break uses a lever and cable to activate the rear brakes. The emergency breaks don't run off brake fluid...

please give good ratings, they are very important...

Emergency brake stuck, pedal release broken

What happens is the brake cables rust inside the cable sheath and then they won't slide easily. There's no good fix for this other than replacement. It's not easy to even find where they are stuck. It might be possible to find the end of the cables at the back wheels and pull the cables back---to release the tension

Emergency Brake Cable Is Broken

Somewhat easy to replace. The part is a dealer item (purchase only from Chevrolet dealer) If you are going to do this yourself, take many photos on the progression of the job to refer back to when putting it back together. Good Luck!
