Using an automotive dolly can be risky, If the vehicle is front wheel drive then dolly the front, if it is rear wheel drive then dolly the rear. If it is 4 wheel drive and late model with no neutral shift position dolly the front and remove the rear drive shaft at the rear axle. If the vehicle is older 4 wheel drive with neutral selection for the transfer case then simply shift to neutral and dolly the front axle. Most transmissions whither automatic or manual will be damaged if the engine is not running while the vehicle is in motion.
the engines crankshaft or the transmissions input shaft must turn to lubricate the transmission unless the transmission is automatic and has a rear pump that can lubricate the transmission if the transmissions output shaft is turned in normal rotation for forward direction of travel. This is the only way to to assure there is no damage to the drive train. Be sure to follow all recommended tie down procedures. remember the dolly rotates under the vehicle so one or the other of the wheels must be able to move forward and back to allow for corners. Try to always choose a path that allows forward direction unless you are an expert driver with experience and able to back a farm wagon type axle trailer (like covered wagon) going backward will be a challenge even for someone experienced pulling a bumper pull trailer.
To get the vehicle onto a dolly have some friends help push or use a cable puller to move the vehicle onto the dolly.

Sorry fellas, so it is better to place the car on trailer with 4 wheels. I am a widow and want to travel. dont know anything about cars.

If towing a rear wheel drive vehicle, the safest way would be with a 4 wheel trailer. You will not have to remove the driveshaft nor worry about internal transmission problems. It is much easier to back up a 4 wheel trailer than a dolly if it is required as well. In some cases, using a dolly can cause damage to fenders as the dolly turns independant of its wheels

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus and want to tow it behind my motor home. Can this be down on all 4 wheels without a transmission cooler?

It cannot be towed if it is an automatic, you will need a dolly to have the front wheels of the ground and not turning if it's a auto, because the engine won't be running the oil pump in the tranny won't be supplying any oil hence it will run dry in a matter of minutes, I can't stress more if it's a auto then don't tow, have the drive wheels on a dolly so they aren't driving

Can I tow a 1996 Grand Caravan on a tow dolly and do the wheels lock as sugested by the tow dolly co.?

The rear wheels on this car are free rolling. With the front wheels up on the tow dolly and secured with the straps provided you should have no problems. Follow the tow dolly instructions such as release the emergency brake, place selector in neutral, and don't drive over 45 mph. You will get to where your going safely. GOOD LUCK.

Is the lancer towable behind moterhome

No vehicle is really towable with all four wheels on the surface. It is best to have a front wheel dolly trailer that the front wheels set on strapped down to tow by. The axles are freely moving if the tires are all on the surface creating a harsh wear to the transmission. The transmission is a hydralic pump as you may know & if the axles are moving for a long distance some parts inside the transmission will be fluxuating as you travel. Many vehicle end up at a transmission shop where I am at with some sort of drivability problem since they have been towed for a long distance. Usually inside your owns manual they will have a section on towing. I would read that section if you have the manual

Can I tow a 2000 Nissan Altima front wheel drive manual transmition with my RV?

Yes but I would use a dolly to do it. The problem is the possibility of the car dropping into gear. Also it is not recommended that you tow a Front wheel drive vehicle with the wheels on the ground. You could damage the transmission. U-Haul and a Number of other rental locations rent a Wheel hopper dolly. This puts the 2 front wheels on the dolly to be towed. It is relatively cheap and will save you damage to the vehicle.
