It sounds like you've either blown a fuse or a circuit breaker. I think the power windows for the 1997 Grand Am are on a 30 amp circuit breaker located next to the fuse array in the fuse box. Look for a breaker labeled WDO. To reset the circuit breaker you may need to push it to the off position before you can return it to the on position. I believe the fuse box is located behind the glove compartment but if you don't find it there you can consult your owner's manual.
Reset battery first, then take to your dealer if there is still a problem.
