It's a toughy, but I can explain. The door handle (the part you pull to close, not the latch pull to open) has a cover, it's the fine line you see, take a screw driver and pry that off (it can be very difficult) there are 2 philips screws under it. After that, take off the 3 torx screws on the bottom of the panel.. then, pull the bottom with a quick firmness, and it should pop, then pull until it's loose and lift upwards to lift it off the door, then un-hook all the connections (they are color coded or they only plug in one hole, so don't worry about where they went until you go back together. Getting off the window regulator is much more fun. Unbolt all the 10mm bolts surrounding the panel, then pop the clips holding on the door latch (you won't need to reattach this, it's not needed, it's on the right near where the latch pull goes into the panel). Then you'll see big black circle plugs, pop those plugs and line up the window bolts till you can see them through the hole, unscrew them a little because they squeeze a clamp that holds the window, they don't go through, then slide up the window and secure it, and then work the panel out. ..

For a quick diagnosis, if you can pick up or move the window anything more than 1/2 an inch w/o using the button, than your regulator is broken and will need a new one.. also don't get a "repair kit" because i've had major problems with those, one scratches a window badly, and they are terribly hard to work and install.

1999 vw beetle window seal leak

yes
clean out the drain holes at the bottom of the door
normally 3 slots near the edge of the door
next get a sheet of clear plastic and using a good sealant adhesive stick the plastic around every opening of the inner panel of the door
That stops water splashing out of the holes against the trim and running into the car
cost
tube of sealer , sheet of plastic and your time

The passenger side window on my 98 vw beetle went down and will not go up and the motor still runs but the window goes nowhere. i got the plastic inside door panel off but can not get the metal inner panel...

Hi:
You need to fix the window thru the small openings in the door. Most likely , you have had a plastic roller or guide part break, so your window assembly is not attached to the motor.
One option is to remove the door panel on the good side to use as an example to what you are missing.
or you can get a subscription to www.alldatadiy.com for about $20, and they will give you all the info you need to do the job!

Passenger power window on my 1998 vw beetle is making a grinding noise

It sounds like something is catching as the window moves. Could be the cables (if it has them), guide rails, etc.
You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then pull back the weather seal and work the window up and down and hopefully you'll be able to see the cause

How to remove window crank and panel on 2001 vw beatle

Check with VW to see if they issued a recall on the window regulators. They replaced both of mine about 2 years ago based upon a service recall. I had a 98 VW Beetle.
