Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) is an alternate system strategy in the PCM designed to maintain engine operation if one or more sensor inputs fail.
When a sensor input is perceived to be out-of-limits by the PCM, an alternative strategy is initiated. The PCM substitutes a fixed value and continues to monitor the incorrect sensor input. If the suspect sensor operates within limits, the PCM returns to the normal engine operational strategy.
All FMEM sensors display a sequence error message on the scan tool. The message may or may not be followed by Key On Engine Off or Continuous Memory DTCs when attempting Key On Engine Running Self-Test Mode.
With the fail safe mode was the "Service" wrench light lit or check engine light ?

I have a 2004 ford explorer xlt v6 4.0l gas. need a o2 sensor diagram. I need names and description. for example bank 1 sensor 2 after catalytic converter

https://www.google.com/search?q=1998+BMW+318i+Automatic+Torque+settings+Head+gasket&biw=1360&bih=650&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwie8o3ix8_QAhUJRSYKHdIXBrkQsAQIKQ#tbm=isch&q=2004+ford+explorer+xlt+v6+engine+firing+order

Hope this helps

Bank two are the even cylinders. Follow exhaust manifold on the side. You will find an O2 sensor just after or on the manifold, before the catalytic converter. Then, look after the catalytic and you should find another O2 sensor, this is the one you mention in your post.

2004 explorer 4.0 coolant reservoir boils over when stabolized at normal level, no heat when level drops temp indicator normal

go to autozone rent the free tool called a block tester buy the fluid for it (about $8.00 us)drive the car make sure the resivour is about 3 inches down so you dont suck any fluid into block tester. pour blue fluid into block tester put it in antifreeze resavour. squeeze bulb sucking air from resouivour for up to 2 minutes if fluid turns yellow your head gaskets are leaking. I think you may find this to be your problem

My 2005 ford explorer 4x4 xlt (v8 4.6 ltr)has trouble code p2106. what does this trouble code mean?

P2106 is an informational code and is usually set by some other fault.

This DTC means is that the PCM detected a fault with the electronic throttle control and went into fail safe mode. It doesn't tell you specifically what system or component went haywire, just that something was wrong, the PCM didn't know what to do so it went to a known good operating parameter, in this case fail safe mode. Likely is a problem with the TPS sensor and will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Solution for the message "engine fail safe mode" in explorer 2005

I have hearing a lot of this lately with Fords. Most of the time this dash board light comes on due to problems with the Throttle Body (TB)not just your coolant,etc.. If it is sticking, dirty, causing misfires, etc. then this can cause an engine fail safe mode. You might first try putting in some injector cleaner and a higher grade of gas. Many people I know who have had this problem have had to have their TB cleaned and/or replaced. This is something Ford dealerships now about, but hasn't been made a recall or anything. There are service bulletins though.Mainly keeping cleaner in your gas and performing ritual tune-ups/oil changes may be the only thing you can do.Hope this helps

2004 Ford Explorer XLT.....The radio and gas gauge quit

The check engine light will represent fault codes that the computer is sensing. Have a mechanic, or go to your local auto parts superstore and have them scan for the fault codes. This will at least give you an idea about some of your problems.
