Remove the speedometer head unit, and check the soldered joints on the back. It's a common problem with these and some Chrysler products. "Randomly" is when the crack closes and makes contact, like if you hit the top of the dash and it starts working again. The speedometer head cluster.
more likely the fuel gauge in the dash is the problem, you can check this by taking the rear seat out to get to the fuel sending unit, then disconnect the connector while you have the ignition on and see if it change.
if it changes the sender is bad, if it doesn't the cluster is bad.
YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE THE DASH HAVE A LOOK AT THE BACK OF IT AND YOU WILL SEE SIX SCREWS AT THE REAR OF THE FUEL GAUGE AND TEMP GAUGE, NOW THE THIRD ONE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE DASH IS THE ONE THAT YOU NEED TO PUT ABOUT 18 INCH PIECE OF WIRE ONTO THEN RUN IT TO AN IGNITION POWER SUPPLY! THIS WILL POWER THE DASH AS I HAVE REPAIRED MY SISTERS LANCER THIS WAY
