I have since had a diagnostics done on my Fiat Strada and it was found that the fault logged on the computer was that the temperature sender unit is faulty. The problem is now that I see that there is a temperature switch on the thermostat housing and there seems to be some sort of sensors located left hand bottom of the radiator. So now I don’t know which units needs to be replaced.

The ECM (Engine Control Module) has to be programmed based on vehicle identification number to teh vehicle it is installed in. Purchasing a computer box via a remarketer or parts store gets you a blank computer that has to be "flashed". If this was a self install job you can take the computer to the dealer and have it flashed, be sure and get the VIN off of your car. Typical cost for a computer programming on vehicle is (based on geography) 100-300 dollars. Since FIAT is a foreign model it might be in the higher end of that range. Even with the ECM flashed you may either not start or if it does it will run rough for the first drive cycle while the vehicle ECM learns the parameters of your car and adjusts accordingly.
