Before you spend money ( and you have doubts) get a second opinion and run the fault codes . There is a problem in that the thermostat has nothing to do with the ECM ( computer box) all it does is control the water temperature in the cooling system by opening and closing according to the coolant temperature
water temperature sensors send signals to the ECM so that the ECM can adjust the air/fuel mixture according to the engine temperature . Talk around as it may save you heaps of cash.

Peugeot 206 temp gauge rapidly goes from middle to red light high. Fluctuates. Checked coolant ok. Worse with up hills and faster speed.

You may have a cracked cylinder head or damaged head gasket.
Open the coolant bottle and rev the engine, if you see bubbles and get an exhaust has smell then you probably have trouble.
Unless you are very mechanically inclined or better yet a mechanic, it’s not recommended you try fix it yourself.
If you don’t pick up any bubbles or exhaust gas smell, you may have a blockage or even an airlock in your cooling system

Sometimes they just clog up. Take a small sewing needle and poke through where they squirt. This should solve your problem. Please let me know how you make out. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Peugeot 206 thermostat housing torque settings

@Kenneth Ella: In my Peugeot 206 1.4 (TU engine series), tightening the thermostat housing bolts with a torque 20 nm was the breaking of the thread in the engine head. I think, correct torque is about 10 nm (8-12 nm).
