The check engine light will come on for various things such as an O2 sensor having gone bad. It will also come on if the seal on the gas cap has gotten a leak. It will come on when the air conditioning system is too low on coolant, as well, as well as for a number of other things.
Usually, the car will need to be put on a diagnostic computer to determine exactly what the check engine light actually means.
Most local mechanics have these diagnostic computers these days, as do all of the car dealers, or a Sears Auto Center. Take you pick and have one of them run a diagnostic check on the car to find out what's actually causing the check engine light to come on.
It's highly unlikely that it's a fuse however, as all of the items I mentioned above which I've had experience with have no fuse associated with them. They just trigger the check engine light, and it takes one of those diagnostic computers to determine what the actual cause is.
What's Md mean ?? Not sure what the situation is here, but the code 138 is for the bank one O2 sensor after the catalytic converter. The computer says that sensor is not giving a reading that is acceptable. Could be the sensor, or something going on with the engine. A mechanic would use a scanner to "see" the sensor in action and determine if it is working or not. It should not keep the car from running, but driving it for an extended period of time could cook the cat converter which would be an expensive repair. This code should not have anything to do with the gas tank.
That code dsoesn't 100% mean the sensor is defective, other factors can set it. See list below. Possible causes- Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted - Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection - Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor - Faulty starter motor - Starting system circuit - Dead (Weak) battery P0601 CHEVROLET - Power Control Module Internal Fault
As far as what you describe, I'd check and clean idle air system and possibly the throttle bore and throttle blade.
I looked at component locations for your vehicle, didn't see mat sensor? These databases are not always correct, but, it's all I have to go by.
I did see an intake air temp sensor. It's located in air duct going to throttle body.
Hi, sorry but it isn't that simple. The computer monitors the sensor functions and must receive appropriate data from the sensor, or it will set the light. The only way to put the light out without correcting the malfunction is to unhook the light itself, but then it will not pass the bulb check either. If you would like information on troubleshooting the malfunction, please send the trouble code, and I would be happy to help.
If it's off now nothing, pick up a bad signal from one of your engine sensor but fix it self, if it comes back on and stays on have computer diag. done and get back with us and will see how we can help you.
Hey, your right about code 42 being the Electronic Spark Timing. The Electric Spark Timing Bypass curcuit or EST circuit is either grounded or open. A malfunctioning HEI module can cause this code so I suggest maybe trying to replace the HEI module. Good luck!
