>Engine error code indicates crankshaft position sensor.
>Vehicle jerks on sudden increase in engine RPM, presumably in Park or neutral as well as in gear.
>Code is set when the engine is gunned.

Hypothesis 1: There is a problem with the sensor wiring. Look for cut, worn, cracked or burned insulation or a pinched wire, especially if the cable goes near an engine mount or exhaust component. Missing insulation could result in the sensor signal being shorted to ground if the engine turns in its mount on acceleration. Another possibility is the engine is actually yanking on the wire if it is too short.

Hypothesis 2: A worn or broken engine mount permits too much engine movement on hard acceleration. This may occur together with Hypothesis 1. If you open the hood and listen, you may hear a bad engine mount knocking when you gun the engine, and you will see the engine jerk out of position. The movement will be more pronounced if the vehicle is in gear, but that isn't safe to do with the hood open unless you have it on a dynamometer.

Hypothesis 3: A worn crank bearing permits excessive variation in crankshaft sensor signal amplitude (i. e., the crankshaft shifts away from the sensor so the sensor misses the signal). I expect if it's this bad, you would also have low oil pressure and probably leaky crankshaft oil seals.

Hypothesis 4: A defective crankshaft sensor mount lets it move during hard acceleration. Without having seen how it is mounted on your engine, I don't think it's likely you would have missed seeing that when you replaced the sensor.

My 04 was acting that way off and on for a couple of years after I had an indepent mechanic do a transmission service. Especially when the weather was cold. We replaced every sensor known to man, went through 5 different mechanics before taking it to the dealer to find out the transmission fluid was low. If I were you I would go the cheap rout first, take it to the dealer and ask them to check the tranny fluid. Don't tell them what it's doing or their going to try and sell you a new tranny. Just ask them to check the tranny fluid or if you can afford it have the DEALER do a transmission service. They are the only ones who fill the tranny fluid properly. I don't know why but that has been my experience over the last 10 years and 200,000. miles. Hopefully it won't be a big expense and it might just fix the problem like it did for me. Good Luck!

The original problem most likely inserted a fault code in the electronics so until it is cleared you will have problems. But, the problem may be other than the sensors. So, it would be wise to get an analyzer on that Durango and find out what's really going on before it results in bigger problems.

Sure wish you luck with this.

Engine lights refer to the engine AND the transmission faults. I would think that when you got the light there was a problem in the transmission ( probably the transmission control module TCM) and by stomping the gas you have a shift change problem causing the jerking.

Reset the trouble diagnostic by disconnecting the negative terminal for 10 minutes. Then drive and see if more codes appear. Could be the parts that tell the engine when to fire are bad. This would be a part like a crankshaft sensor or a camshaft sensor.

You did not indicate what model car you have. Some engines have parts called "manifold runners" which can cause some problems and when you change RPM it affects the manifold vacuum which moves these parts.

You can get free scans at major autoparts stores once a code is set.

Gmc yukon will not start. tested alternator, battery and starter.

I take your question as the engine cranks, but does not fire up, 1st listen at the gas tank with gas cap off, is the fuel pump running for 3 seconds then stops when the key is turned on (not to start)?? If it is, check the fuel pressure at the motor to see if it's 52 lbs. If this is OK, then it's probably the crankshaft sensor behind the starter. When this sensor fails it will shut off the fuel pump. Also see if you have a Check Engine light, with a scan code reader, because without the engine running the Service Engine light will not work correctly. It should have a code to say what the error is, good luck. Do not disconnect the battery, it will reset the error code. I had that same problem and it was the crankshaft sensor, and it's not easy to change (starter has to come out as the oil dip stick). About $ 50.00 if you do it.
