I've renewed the regulator but I still get the same problem. I am off the opinion that I might be missing battery power on the 4 pin plug of the alternator

terminal IG must be hot on ignition on only
if terminal S is present, then must be always hot

Hi Darren,
The problem is with the regulator. Try and get a solid state electronic replacement of good quality from a known manufacturer. Once a good replacement has been found your problem is solved, I promise.
