Can't pass the inspection, on the report , it said : two reason, 1- Monitor catalyst : not ready & monitor O2 - not ready.

Mechanics told me to run the car 20 miles or more, it may solve the problem, but it's not. Don't know what to do, can anyone tell me please. thanks.

Considering the codes you have an oxygen sensor fault ..That is the 02 problem..The monitor catalyst also is part of an exhaust issue...All are an emissions fault...Sometimes an oxygen sensor will also cause the catalyst code....You really need a OBD SCANNER to find which O2 sensor is at fault....They are located on the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe....Auto zone should scan it for free just for the business...Vehicle should not need a catalytic converter but it is possible.....From my years of mechanical work I have found both of those codes to be a simple 0xygen sensor....Considering you have two codes it is probably Upstream and downstream sensors...Remember ...One is on the exhaust manifold and the other is mounted directly in the exhaust pipe ....normally in front of the converter...Each has a wiring connector attached to it...They screw into the pipe and EX.manifold...You can clear the fault codes just by disconnecting battery....Sometimes they won't notice if codes are cleared..

Your mechanics is correct.. but that's the short verion!

It's called a drive cycle, drive cycles can be difficult to follow under normal driving conditions. Begin by:
- Start the engine. Idle the engine in drive for two and a half minutes with the A/C and rear defroster on.
- Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55 mph at half throttle.. under 3,000 rpm
- Hold at a steady speed of 55-60 mph for 3 minutes.
- Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph WITHOUT braking OR depressing the clutch.
- Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at ¾ throttle.. under 4,000 rpm
- Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for 5 minutes.
- Decelerate (coast down) to a stop without braking.
If all other emissions systems are functioning properly, completing the drive cycle above will set the "readiness flags" required to pass the inspection. BTW, It will not hurt to perform the drive cycle 2 or 3 times before the inspection.

O2 Emission Monitors & Evap Monitor-- are two
different systems

Get ALL your OBD Codes & work them one at a time,
& DO NOT Clear any data with code reader or removing
battery cable, or the monitors ALL have to run again

The heater may work in the sensor, but the sensor doesn't
switch fast enough or is worn out & the front sensors get
replaced at 100,000, before they fail or slow down

The Evap Codes will be needed, to work on that issue
That monitor runs last & only every few days

IF--- you had professional scan tool software, you would see
11 monitors & maybe 8 that run on your vehicle

There will be at least 2 for the O2,one for cylinder misfire,
one for evap, one for egr,& three others

My personal suggestion would
be to go for these repair catalogs. I know this website www.reliable-store.com that i used to buy them from, and they sold online it was very good manual. Go ahead, I bet.

You need to find a new shop that can actually diagnose
a vehicles evap system & the emission monitors

You can not do that without professional tools & knowledge

Don't know how many times you need to be told that

The shop you went to isn't doing anything apparently

You have problems to find & resolve & no one else will
give you a different answer, if they even work on vehicles,
or have knowledge of the obd systems & only the pros have
the test equipment needed

No no it wasn't because of the O2 sensor that it didn't pass it was a couple of things that came up and the we're Catalyst not ready Monitor Evap not ready Monitor O2 not readyz

You have 8 I/M or Emission Monitors that have to run clear
BEFORE you can go to inspection

Your Catalyst Efficiency comes from the switching comparison
of the front & rear oxygen sensors being out of range

Until you resolve the rear O2 Sensor Heater Issue you won't
know if the cat is good or you have other problems

You need professional scan tool software & a long road test
to even find a problem, then component test, which apparently
wasn't done when they hung the new rear sensor on based on a code

Obd not ready won't pass inspection

It usually takes more than one drive cycle to clear all monitors to "ready".The vehicle may take multiple "from cold" drive cycles and hundreds of miles to clear all.Drive normally with varied driving and include long coasting down stops.Buy a cheap scan tool ($35) and check monitors as you drive.
DO NOT CLEAR CODES or run the battery dead or you will have to start over!

What is the drive cycle for an 01 pontiac aztec?

if there is really no problem with all these things they should be able to clear out the lights when they go to do the inspection.

Monitor Reset

The following conditions must occur to complete a Trip and test all OBD II monitors and components including the Catalyst Efficiency Monitor:
-- The misfire, comprehensive component, and adaptive fuel monitors are checked continuously from engine warm-up and can complete any time.
-- The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) monitor test requires a series of idles and accelerations.
-- The heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) monitor requires a steady speed drive for approximately 1 minute at 30 to 40 mph.
-- The catalyst efficiency monitor requires a steady speed drive for 1 minute and 20 seconds beyond the HO2S monitor test at 40 to 65 mph.
If you cut engine off before test are completed then you must wait for a 6 hour cool down before monitors will run again.
