Sounds like a CV (Constant Velocity) joint. I can't completely solve this for you, but you can re-post with the CV problem. The sound - grinding and or popping - should be coming from only one side of the car - but it could be the inner or outer CV joint on that side. Check the rubber boots around the joints - they are located on each end of the drive shaft on the transaxle. If you have a torn boot, that will probably indicate which joint is bad.

When I turn left after slowing down from a highway speed my car makes a grinding noise. what do you think it is?

Probably need new brake pads-look through the wheel openings to see if the surface of the rotor is getting gouged by pads that have run down-you may have to remove the wheels to see since it might be an inside pad.

have your brakes check. the type of noise that you are hearing is common when the brake pads or shoes are worn so much that metal on the pads or shoes is grinding into the rotors or drums

Scraping pulse noise r front merc sable

Check the condition of the wheel bearings, front and back side if the brake rotor, and the back side of the rim. Everything should be clean, rust build-up can throw everything out of true. The hub or wheel-bearing should be tight and smooth when spun.
