Don't replace the starter yet, try this:
While you're trying to start the car, have someone bang on the starter, under the car, not too hard. This will usually un-jam the pinion gear and it will turn over.
I had to do that and it worked great. Then i Just washed the tip of the pinion gear in a cleaner and it's worked now for 15 years.

The solenoid is not moving the pinion gear forward to engage in the flywheel so check that you have connected the wire from the starter switch correctly. Next point to check --if this is an auto matic vehicle ,check that the flex plate has not broken away and not in the position for the pinion gear to engage ti.

SOURCE: Starter solenoid on 1993 Ford E350 nwith 7.5 liter

It sounds like the small tickler wires may be reversed to the Solenoid.

If no success, call Itasca and ask if there were any changes for this Solenoid. There are several types of Solenoid with the grounding being the major internal difference. Most likely your wires are switched.

Toyota corolla. replaced battery.starter. positive and negative terminals and wires. starter spins but does not engage flywheel. slight grinding noise from starter when i turn the key off.. help

I remember on several Toyota Corolllas, the starter solenoid would throw the contact plunger back and make contact from Battery to Starter before the Pinion gear on the starter shaft was fully engaged with the Flywheel Gear. Check for wear on the actuating fork pivot point (Bearing), that throws the gear to the back engaging the ring gear on the flywheel, and makes the contact plate short the terminals to provide current to the starter motor

Turn key get nothing jump starter and sylenoid just spins

i cant dope out that symptoms.

does it crank or not. be clear there.

no car starts (but my 6sp) if it dont crank.

on A/T cars cranking is a first thing. so does it.?

Solenoids do not spin, the stroke only , it a linear motion.

the Sol. moves the pinion and the main contactor switch only.

my guess is the Starter spins and the crank don\'t spin,

you hear the starter motor spin up, it sings. like bird.

that means the starter /solenoid are bad. (crude)

if the battery is good and or jumper starting off a running car.

It can just be a dirty starter pinion, clean it , repeat.

fixed many for this. i have.

battery cable lugs clean, and good. no green rust.

bad cable usually just make a loud THUNK sound. no spin.

Check all your battery connections, especially the ground wire to the engine. I would recommend cleaning all your battery connections and terminals on the starter.

My van will not turn over,i thought it was the starter cause it wasnt starting it will turn over but not start.so i put a new battery in it cause i was told the old one wasnt kicking out enough amps.and it...

The starter motor when cranking the engine when energized, causes the crankshaft to turn and the belt pulleys will also turn. If the starter motor just sounds without engaging, there is a problem with the starter solenoid or the starter great teeth or the ring great teeth.
Once the engine cranks but will not run, the engine must have compassion, fuel and spark for it to run.

Your Starter solenoid has gone bad on your starter or the gears on the starter or flywheel have a chiped gear.
It is most likely just the solenoid not engaging the starter though.
This can be found at your local parts store.
