Question about Peugeot Cars & Trucks
I've changed all the fluids, added injector cleaner and about to change the fuel filter. It doesn't appear to blow smoke without any load. It is also having trouble deciding when to change gears - presumably because the power curve is not what it should be. The symptoms dont see to match a blown turbo. It might be a sensor error?
It could be anything but checking one by one following parts may resolve power loss issue:
Blocked diesel fuel filter
Blocked particulate filter
Defective high pressure fuel sensor
Defective high pressure fuel pump
And in worst case cylinder head gasket is leaking.

Is it a diesel. If so it could be the particulate filter blocked, or it could be a failed fuel pump or something internal of the pump, or if a petrol it could be a failed catalytic converter, undo the exhaust and see if that changes, if so then look closely at your exhaust.

There is no need to change it frequently. If there is a loss of engine power or if throttle cuts out then may be its the time to change fuel filter. It is recommended by peugeot to change fuel filter (but depends on fuel purity) after every 36000 miles.
You can clean it yourself
Dipp the whole filter body in carosine oil tank and leave it in there for about 20-30 minutes
Pour some petrol in filter with the help of plastic piped and apply a slight air pressure (use a piece of pipe to blow) in the reverse direction (marked with arrows) of fuel supply to clear residue and heavy oil composite that clogged in filter.
Repeating the cleaning process 2-3 times will clean the filter to reuse it without the need of a new one to buy.

The reason for the black smoke is that it is not getting enough air to burn the fuel completely.It could be a blocked air filter,obstruction in the air intake system,blown turbo,hole in tube between intake manifold and turbo,or a fault with the fuel system and injectors.

Before we do anything else lets do a fuel pressure check to make sure the pump is a-ok as well as the fuel pressure regulator. Your gonna need shop manual for this as well as a fuel pressure tester. If all checks out then move to the Turbo code.
Turbo code looks like the waste gate is stuck open and your not building the boost. Do a visual inspection look for any signs of overheating and bearing wear. Check or change oil as needed.
With regards to the Mass air flow I believe you have to replace it. Keep in mind this thing might be the root of you whole problem.
I strongly suggest you use the shop manual for the codes you got. it will make this repair a snap.
