Hello. Your GMC's oil pump at the bottom of the engine block; covered by the oil pan. To access it; drain the oil and remove the oil pan. The 'oil pickup tube' is bolted to the oil pump 'cavity'. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.
You need to remove the oil pan to get to the oil pump. You will not find it externally on the engine. If you already have the pan out, follow the oil pickup and it will lead you righ to the pump.
You may have to loosen the engine-to-frame mounts and slightly raise the motor to access these. Always use jack stands when lifting something as heavy as the engine for safety.
