Stopped at light. Engine shut off, won't restart.
Lots and lots of reasons, guessing. over 50 (bad engine?)
but does it crank?, no car starts unless it's cranked or
like my car, push started or gravity started (a 6sp m/t)
if engine fails to start , and cranks robustly (fast starter motor)
then
1: never tuned up, running 10 year old spark parts.
2: blow fuse. check fuses.
3:; lost spark, check spark.
4: flooding or loss of fueling. to unflood any engine, crank at wideopen throttle (oper, guide tells you that)
5: timing belt not changed at 60,000 miles it will fail, and will not start
or start have like 1/4 power.
6: lost compression in or more cylinders.?
or
get it serviced? if all that is too much work? or confusing.
1991 geo storm turns over, has ignition, has fuel, has air, has compresion and still won't start.
timed right spark on all 4 or just one, compression over 150psi all 4 or just one, takes all 4 turn, think like it has 4 engine,! bad fuel? cat melted, EGR stuck wide open. all engine run perfect on test fuel with gas tank missing, does test fuel work, if not you have lost spark, if spark is perfect the engine bad or can not breath, try to strart with 5% throttle then try wide open throttle are the spark tips black white, or soaking in fuel, does did you know the ECU will flash codes for dead cmp sensor>?
is that compression ok finger blowning off a spark hole or real guaged x4. that spark ok, tested on all 4.? did you use a timing light on #1 to see if its firing near TdC ? I BET NOT.
TEST FUEL, ever see then , see a video.

remove 1 space at http s , to see scotty do his thing.
his video assume engine is good. (timing belt not slipped) but is valid test for fast answer, if all test pass and its dont start. well , that proves the engine bad. egr stuck open or cat melted, there are tests for both. ask. i an make your engine run on pallet, in car way more easy.
engine cam belt ingnored, now slipped and wont run?

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
Engine stalling and rough run
issue at low speeds
