Question about 1997 Lexus ES 300

1 Answer

I have a Lexus Es300 1997. It set for a hear,we started it once a week. Recently put new tires, oil change and decided to start using the vehicle. Its my only one now. Took it down the road, it started missing out as soon as the car warmed up. Parked it, same thing the next day but, then it died on me. Checked battery, its good. Checked the alternator. It showed bad. Replaced that and the belt. It stayed running for about 30 miles, started missing again. Put new plugs in it. It seemed to make it worse. Code said cylinder 6 was miss fireing. Bought a coil, did nothing. Its now making a horrible noise that sounds like the motors blown but its not. The Boise is coming from around the alternator. Could it be the chaff crank sensor? Pls help! Its Christmas, I've done poured 600$ into it and don't have the funds to replace more parts that don't need replacing.

It may have been cheaper to take it to a shop to get checked first. So many things have been replaced and we do not if done correctly or necessary.

I've been trying to postpone that just because of financials but, I do have an appointment to put it in the shop to get it checked next week. Thx!

Go to a site like the or and look up your brand of tire. Look for the Rolling Resistance specs and compare your new tires to the old tires.

Sometimes you get "bargain" tires which are not the optional upgrades. These bargains may be undersize or smaller than your optional originals.
There are differences in width, but more important is the sidewall series.

A 70 series is larger than a 65 or 60 series. Your optional tire could have been a 70 and using a 65 will be a smaller tire if the width is the same.

Tire composition and material reflect in the rolling resistance.

Under inflation-many tire stores use less air to give the tire a better ride. Check your pressure, the label on the doorjam and raise the pressure,
usually to under 3 or 4 lbs the stated maximum on the tire.

Check air filter and any hose fittings that may have been disturbed by the oil change. Temperature, gasoline, and driving habits can affect gas mileage. Sometimes a locking gas cap helps too.

I recently bought a 1996 Lexus ES300. Upon purchasing it, I did a full service tune up (changed air filter, plugs, wires, oil, tires, brakes, and rotors). Everything seemed to be fine, as it ran...

Since you recently bought this car, did the seller inform you that the car had a problem? If they didn't and knew there was a problem (and 1-2 quarts a week oil consumption is something they would know) that is fraud.

Did you have oil residue on your plugs when you pulled them out and checked them? Which cylinders did you have the oil residue if any?

If you are burning 1-2 quarts of oil a week your tail pipe should be black if not oily. Is your car smoking badly? Have you considered doing a compression check to find out the health of your engine? I would if I was in your position.

Although you seem to be the handy type of guy, rebuilding an engine is not for the light hearted without a thorough mechanical background. Depending on your knowledge base and tool inventory and rebuilt engine might be the way to go.

My 1995 lexus has recently not started after

do you hear the starter click or try to turn the engine. Most likely it is your starter. The contactors wear over the time/the number of starts over the years. You can get a rebuilt starter or buy a new one. If you are up to the challenge you can but repair kits to rebuilt it. It a 300-400 dollar job at the dealer.

do not start vehicle ,drop the sump and clean it out with caustic ,also the oil pump pick up pipe ,then put the oil back in and start ,if ok then put half a litre of diesel into the oil and 3 good squirts of fairy liquid, then run engine for a week and change the oil again, use a cheap diesel /petrol oil from the supermarket ,not that fancy rip off synthetic long life ****.change oil every 6000 miles with a oil filter every third oil change

I need to change my oil

Actually, your oil filter is a little harder to do than this. The oil filter is not a traditional American type. You will find a metal skid plate or shroud underneath the car that will have to come off first. The filter is one of the paper cartridge types where you remove this metal cylinder, discard the old paper cartridge, and put the new paper cartridge in the metal cylinder and reattach the metal cylinder. I have an ES 350 and its not as easy as the other responder suggested.

Starting problem for 1999 Lexus GS300

make sure the air filter lid has been put back into proper place, if they left it loose the engine would **** more air while trying to start, so you need more fuel to balance it out.

Just had aa oil change in Sept, no leaks anywhere but no oil left. Do Hyundai Santa Fe burn that much oil?

No. Either the shop forgot to refill your engine, or they improperly installed the drain plug or drain plug gasket. Also, make sure that the oil filter is the right kind, and also properly installed. It is possible to have a leak without any apparent signs, so make sure to check thouroghly. I hope this helps you out!

How to reset the computer for oil & tire presurre warnings

There are 4 key ignition settings: Off, Acc, On, Start Turn key to the On position, quickly press the gas pedal 3 times, then turn key clockwise to Start position and actually start the car. You'll hear it chime at you and the change oil indicator light will flash and disappear.

The tire light....Have you checked all your tires for prper air pressure? including the spare? If they all have the maunfactures recomended PSI. Remove the negitive post from the battery for 20 min. to rest puter. If that dont work you have a faulty TPMS on a tire need a new one. Hope this helps

Lexus RX 300 Yr model 2005 - Service Maintenance Tips

Hello Ben,
Service intervals in North America are oil changes at 8000 km, schedule maint with cabin filters and air intake filters, tire rotation and brake inspection, at 16,000km intervals.Given where you are located under extreme heat you could advance the intervals by 20% early.
If you have your manual package this will be detailed inside. Toyota developed a high grade oil filter years ago with exceptional filtration. If you decide to use aftermarket filters change oil around 5,000 km instead. Don't touch electronics until the vehicle indicates and issue. Trans fluid around 72,000 should be fine.
All these should be outlined in your manuals and in theh warranty cover booklet as well.
You have chosen and EXCELLENT vehicle
