The best is always asbestos but since that is not available anymore try taking what you bought from autozone and gluing fiberglass insulation to it. Fiberglass doesn't burn but make sure you position it in a manner that keeps it as dry as possible. If the heat is coming off your exhaust try wrapping the exhaust close to the starter with fiberglass pipe wrap. That should cure it.

There is a kevlar heat shield tube that can be used around electrical wires Probable available from an electrical equipment whole sales shop. Next fibreglass matting cut into strips and wrapped around the wire will do the trick. Just do not use epoxy as this is what makes fibre glass inflammable. Best bet is to have an accredited auto electrician make up a battery cable with a length so that the cable can be positioned away from any heat source.

Is changing a starter on a 2000 ls impala difficult.

The starter should have 2 large bolts and a wiring harness, go under your truck, find it and confirm what I have told you.

If you do it.

Disconnect the battery!
Disconnect the wiring from the starter/
remove the bolts slowly, the starter is heavy, note if any "shims" are between the starter and the engine.

Starters usually dont go that often, you may want to check your battery condition, remove the battery and take to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto to have the battery check, with Auto Zone they will can alos hook up a code reader to see if you have any issues, that is also free.

best of luck hope this helped.

How to replace starter motor on 04 kia sedona

Disconnect the positive battery terminal. You'll need to remove the 3 bolts holding on the heat sheild to the starter, also remove the lower heat sheild on the exhaust manifold. You'll need diconnect to 2 wires attached to the starter and unbolt the 2 bolts holding the starter to the transmission/engine.

How to unlock door with dead battery

If you haven't tried the key in the door, and make sure you turn it both ways, you'll need to get power to the vehicle. To do that your going to have to make yourself some small jumper cables. Get some small alligator clips from a parts store or Walmart or a home improvment store would have. It needs to be big enough to clamp on to a 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch nut. And needs to be long enough to reach under to the nut on the starter that holds the battery cable on. Put it on the starter nut first, then put something on a good ground on there as well. Then put it on the postive post of a good battery, then make sure you only touch the ground wire to the vehicle with the good battery to make sure your not grounding your postive wire anywhere. Once your sure its safe connect it and you should be able to have power on your SUV and can unlock the doors. If all else fails you might have to smash the grill to pop the hood manually to get in depending on the hood latch and pull device. I had to run the wire thing on a vehicle that had the keys locked in and the owner only had the remote for it. And had left the headlights on. Just be very careful if you try this.

Starter--1997 Dodge Caravan-3.0

I would take your car to wal mart or auto zone and have battery tested 1st. Bad batteries can cause this too. This test is free, if your battery is good then you can remove your starter. Its usually on the bottom side of engine and usually has 2 bolts with wires that run from battery. You can follow big red wire from + battery terminal to starter. You can also have your starters tested for free at auto zone once removed.

good luck.
